⭐⭐FEATURING MIGHTY ATHLETE SKI, 81⭐⭐

John, who goes by “Ski,” is an 81‑year‑old man who has been supported by Hope House Foundation since 1984. He is social, loving, and kind, and he enjoys spending time with neighbors and being out in the community. Ski especially loves holidays and decorates his apartment for every single one.

He uses a wheelchair for mobility and is able to transfer independently. Pictured here with Milly, Ski is getting ready to begin his adaptive yoga session - a calming, community‑based movement practice he looks forward to each week.

Sometimes the work isn’t in doing more.
Come into a pose and notice where the effort actually needs to be. Then notice everything else that has joined the party. The clenched jaw. The lifted shoulders.
The toes gripping the mat.
Sthira asks us to create enough support to remain steady. Sukha reminds us that effort doesn’t have to become tension.
There is intelligence in knowing what needs to work, and what doesn’t. Remember a little work in a lot of places rather than a lot of work in one or a few places...
Wednesday Inquiry:
Where are you using more effort than the moment requires?

Summer isn’t quite finished with us yet. Sunset Serenity has a new date! We’re looking forward to one more beautiful evening poolside before we officially say goodbye to summer. Join us Monday, September 14th for our rescheduled floating sound bath with HUSH Sound Healing. As the sun begins to set, settle onto your float and let the sound carry across the water. It’s an hour to step away from everything else and simply enjoy the experience. Already registered? Your reservation has automatically been moved to the new date. We didn’t get our August sunset, so we’re claiming one in September. We hope you’ll join us.

Labor Day is a reminder that sometimes the most productive thing we can do is simply pause. Step away from the to-do list.
Put down the phone. Roll out your mat or don’t.
Breathe a little deeper. Move a little slower. Give yourself permission to do less.
Because rest isn’t something we have to earn. It’s part of the practice.
This Labor Day, honor all that you do by making a little space to simply be.
You’ve done the work. Now rest. You'll thank us later.
Happy Labor Day from all of us at Studio Bamboo.

A new season brings a natural shift in rhythm, and our schedule is shifting right along with it. As we move into fall, you’ll notice some changes to the weekly schedule along with new classes to explore. It’s all designed to give you more ways to make your practice work with your life. Maybe you’re returning to a class you’ve missed. Maybe you’re ready to try something new. Or maybe fall simply feels like the right time to get back into a more consistent practice.
New season. New week. New schedule.
Take a look and find what works for you. We’ll see you on the mat.
Fall schedule begins October 8th. Check Momence for the complete schedule.

Why a workshop? Because sometimes there’s more to explore than we can fit into a regular class. Workshops have always been an important part of what we offer at Studio Bamboo. They give us a chance to spend more time with the practice and understand and experience it in a different way. You don’t have to have years of experience or even be a seasoned practitioner to participate. You simply need to be curious and want to learn more. Some workshops invite you to move more. Others ask you to slow down . Some introduce you to a practice you may never explored before. Come and explore and be curious with us.

September brings us to Sthira + Sukha. In the Yoga Sutras, sthira sukham asanam speaks to the qualities of steadiness and ease within our practice.
Sthira is our stability. Our ability to remain present and grounded.
Sukha is ease not necessarily easy, but the ability to find space within the effort.
We need both.
Too much effort and we become rigid. Too much ease and we may lose the support that allows us to stay. This month, we’ll explore what happens when we stop choosing between strong and soft and begin noticing how they can exist together.
Wednesday Inquiry:
Where in your practice could you use a little more steadiness, and where could you soften?

September brings us back to rhythm.
Our theme this month is Sthira + Sukham the balance of steadiness and ease. It feels especially fitting as summer begins to wind down and we settle into a new season at the studio. Our new schedule begins September 8, bringing new classes and teachers to the weekly line-up.
On September 12, our next 300-Hour Advanced Teacher Training begins. A new chapter for a group of teachers ready to deepen their understanding, challenge what they know, and continue growing in the way they teach.
Throughout the month, you’ll also find workshops and special events that give you an opportunity to slow things down, explore something more deeply, and experience your practice beyond a regular class.
And before we officially say goodbye to summer, come find us at one of our favorite Virginia Beach traditions, Neptune Festival. We’ll be there at Neptune's Healthy Haven practicing, connecting, and celebrating the community we get to call home all for a wonderful cause, LIFT Fitness Foundation.
A new season. A return to rhythm.
Finding steadiness without becoming rigid, and ease without losing our foundation.
See you on your mat...
