What’s the point of getting “fit” if we destroy our bodies along the way? That’s something I think about a lot. At CrossFit Viroqua, we’re not just coaching people for today’s workout. We’re coaching people for the life they want to live when they’re 60, 70, 80, 90, and beyond. That’s why intensity has to be relative. If you slept four hours last night, had a stressful day at work, feel mentally, emotionally, or physically drained, or yesterday’s workout hit you hard, then today’s workout might need to look different. That doesn’t mean you’re weak. It means you’re training smart.
The goal isn’t to prove something every single day. The goal is to build a body that lets you keep saying yes to life. Yes to playing with your grandkids. Yes to getting on and off the floor. Yes to hiking, traveling, gardening, working, serving, and living an active life. I always say I want to be doing this until I’m 100. Not because I need to lift the most weight or have the fastest time on the board, but because I want to move well, feel strong, and keep living. That’s what we coach for at CrossFit Viroqua. Not one great workout. A lifetime of health.
What do you want your body to still be able to do when you’re 80?
