Most dogs don't get bitten by rattlesnakes because they're looking for trouble.

They get bitten because they're being dogs.

A quick sniff in the grass.

A curious nose exploring a trail.

A moment of investigation.

That's often all it takes.

Rattlesnake Avoidance Training teaches dogs to recognize the sight, sound, and scent of a rattlesnake—and choose to move away instead.

Our annual Rattlesnake Avoidance Training Clinic with Fred Presson of High On Kennels is coming to Oceanside July 11-12.

Cost: $110 per dog

🐾🎓 Congratulations to Our AKC Puppy STAR Graduates! 🎓🐾

What a wonderful group of puppies this has been to watch grow!

When class began, some of these youngsters weren't quite sure what to make of each other~or the world around them~especially the larger pups😁 Fast forward a few weeks, and they were chasing, playing, learning, and showing off some serious confidence.

Lance found his courage and blossomed into a brighter, bolder young dog.

Juniper surprised everyone when she discovered she had some pretty impressive wrestling skills and wasn't afraid to join the fun.

Kai was always ready for a chase, a game, or an adventure with his puppy pals.

Nash grew more confident each week and may have already started practicing his natural herding instincts by keeping track of everyone else's business. 😉

Ellwood, our tiniest graduate, desperately wanted to join the puppy parties. While we obviously protected him from the bigger play groups, he never lacked enthusiasm, happily inviting everyone to play (from the safety of his protected space) and bravely taking on every challenge, including confidently walking the "gauntlet" during his AKC Puppy STAR evaluation.

And then there was Misty—better known to us as Ms. Demenor. 💕 Arriving a little later than the rest of the class, she quietly worked her way through each challenge. Though naturally shy, she grew a little braver with every class and successfully completed her Puppy STAR evaluation. We couldn't be prouder of her progress.

We'd also like to give a special shoutout to Juno, who moved on from this group and has already continued her education in Basic Obedience. We love seeing our Puppy STARs move on to their next adventures!

Congratulations to all of our graduates and their families. Watching puppies gain confidence, learn new skills, and build positive experiences is one of our favorite parts of what we do. 💚🐾

🐾 Happy Dog Father's Day! 🐾

Dog dads:

✔️ Carry treats in random pockets
✔️ Have far more photos of their dog than themselves
✔️ Speak fluent "Who's a good dog?"
✔️ Somehow end up sharing every chair they sit in 😄
✔️ Wouldn't have it any other way

Recent puppy graduate Kai seems pretty confident she's got this Dog Dad thing figured out.

One of the best things we get to witness in class isn't just dogs learning new skills—it's the bond that grows between dogs and their people. The trust, communication, and understanding that develop along the way are what make the journey so rewarding.

To all the dog dads who show up for the training classes, the early morning walks, the puppy shenanigans, and all the moments in between—thank you for building those relationships every day. ❤️

Wishing all the dog dads out there a wonderful day filled with wagging tails, happy memories, and maybe a little extra room on the couch.

Happy Dog Father's Day! 🐶🐾

It's hard to have a bad day when this face walks into class. 😍

Mia is 3 years old, charming, adorable, and completely unconvinced that anyone should rush into anything.

Training isn't always about creating a dog who works at lightning speed. Sometimes it's about building communication, confidence, and finding what motivates the dog in front of you.

Let's just say, Mia keeps us smiling every week. ❤️🐾

Bellatrix:
"I know I'm supposed to look at you...I'm trying, but there are approximately 47 other things happening in this room and treats in both your hands."

😂

One of the ways we build reliable focus is by gradually adding distractions.

Can your dog pay attention when it's quiet?

Great.

Now can they do it when someone else is moving around?

What about when another dog is nearby?

What about when life gets interesting?

For dogs who are shy, uncertain, or still building confidence, these little moments matter.

That's where training starts turning into real-world skills.
Because confidence doesn't usually appear all at once.

It grows one successful choice at a time.

And Bellatrix has been making a lot of great choices lately. 💛🐾

One of our favorite clients once asked:

"What happened to my dog? Is he broken? Did we break him? " 😁

The answer?

Nope.

You didn't accidentally "break" your dog😂.

You got a teenager🤪Congratulations!

Adolescence is a normal stage where many dogs begin testing boundaries, discovering independence, ask a lot of questions, and suddenly finding the entire world more interesting (or terrifying) than their humans.

The good news?

This phase doesn't last forever.

With patience, consistency, and practice, today's distracted teenager becomes tomorrow's amazing companion. Oh...and definitely keep that sense of humor.

In the meantime, snacks help. 💛🐾 And possibly a glass of wine for the parent😁

Store Manager Update🐾🐕🐾

After supervising retail operations...

Inspecting customer traffic...

Monitoring treat inventory...

And ensuring all artwork was properly displayed...

The manager required a brief break.

😴

It's exhausting being this committed to quality control.

(Or maybe she was just tired after class.)

We'll never know. Good work, Miss Frida!

Big victories don't always look big from the outside.

Sometimes they look like this.

A dog choosing to focus on his person.

A moment of calm.

A moment of trust.

A moment where the world feels just a little less overwhelming.

Eugene has been working hard to build confidence, and his family has been right there with him every step of the way.

Training isn't always about teaching a new cue.

Sometimes it's about helping a dog feel safe enough to learn.

And moments like this remind us why patience, consistency, and understanding matter so much. 💛

We're proud of you, Eugene.

When your Cane Corso falls asleep on the first day of class...

No offense, but we're taking that as a five-star review. 😂

One of the things Kindred Spirits teaches dogs is how to do nothing.

Which sounds ridiculous until you've lived with a dog that thinks every moment is a potential emergency, social event, squirrel sighting, or life-or-death mission.

Teaching a dog to simply exist calmly around other dogs and people is one of the most valuable life skills they can learn. And this big guy accidentally became the perfect poster child for it. 💛🐾😴Good boy, Koda😊Here's to a "do nothing" weekend😎
