Being in this field has shown me the incredible resilience, dedication, selfless love and awe inspiring truth of motherhood. Today marks 40 years since the founding of the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners. The program that created the standards and certifications for lactation consultants worldwide! I had the absolute honor of being taught a few semesters of classes by one of the founding members, Linda Smith.

I am proud to be one of over 38,000 IBCLCs in the world!

By medicine standards, breastfeeding knowledge and practice is young. Research and broader provider education is still desperately needed to continue to give all families the best care. I only hope this subject continues to expand and become more accessible as time goes on !

Going through my closet, I found this poster board I created for my children’s school career day last year! The kids were really excited to learn about babies, weigh baby dolls on the infant scale, and make clay baby tummies! So grateful to get to share my amazing job with the next generation 💕

I get asked very often “ how long should I breastfeed?” And this is the answer I give. It used to be recommended only until 12 months in the U.S. Breastmilk does not lose its value or nutritional properties over time. So long as the parent and child are happy, continuing into toddlerhood is beneficial for both of you💕

👶🏻 Breast-milk is the ideal first food for a baby. It's safe, clean and contains antibodies which protect against dangerous illnesses.

✅ Start breastfeeding within 1 hour after birth
✅ Breastfeed exclusively for the first 6 months
✅ Continue breastfeeding alongside healthy family foods until the baby is at least 2 years old

Postpartum doula shifts are so rewarding 💕
Whether it’s cuddling some little loves so parents can catch some 💤, catching up on laundry & bottles/pump parts, or even organizing a sibling’s toy room. I am always so happy to be a part of the village 💜

Happy summer! ☀️

Did you know that babies under 6 months do not need ANY water? Even here in the sunshine state, even on the beach! Breastmilk is 87% water. And formula is about 85% water.

You may notice that your baby seems to eat more on hot days or when you spend a lot of time outside, and that is a good thing. Breastmilk or formula is not only their food, but their hydration, and it’s crucial to follow your babies cues! You may not think they could possibly be hungry again so soon, and maybe they are not… they are thirsty 💧

So enjoy the sun with your little one this summer, but always be sure to get those ounces in and put baby in protective clothing! 👒
