Born with spina bifida in 1981, Arthur Aston grew up in a time when disability awareness was lacking. Forty years later, he's changing the way the world sees disability through his foundation Our View, a nonprofit that offers workplace disability awareness trainings, educational assemblies and builds accessible playgrounds in the New Jersey area.

They also sponsor an adaptive baseball league, the Camden County New Jersey Miracle League, that is open to all disabilities, with volunteers available to assist. Listen to our to interview with Art in episode 67 of our podcast, Life After Paralysis.

Shannon explains why deafness is a spectrum, and shares what her experience has been like while managing motherhood while being deaf. She also discusses some of her favorite books and movies that address topics related to the deaf community.

Navigating her career with hearing loss has made her a voice for accessibility and childcare reform in the U.S. Through her work with Mother Forward, she campaigns for policy changes like affordable childcare and paid leave. Shannon uses her social media platforms to share her lived perspective to help organizations and individuals understand the realities of balancing work-life demands while managing a disability and being a parent.

Serving as the Community Outreach Coordinator for the Self Advocacy Association of NYS, on the Council for Developmental Disabilities and the Disability Advisory council for the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities and as the State coordinator of the Ms Wheelchair NY Competition.
Shameka shares about the importance of disability representation and her company, Disability Empowered Consulting.
