When the two bones that come together to form a joint become completely separated, the joint is described as dislocated. Contact sports such as football and basketball, as well as high-impact sports and sports that involve significant contact, falling, or extreme loads cause most dislocations. A dislocated joint typically requires immediate medical treatment, but sometimes the bones move back into place on their own. A dislocation is a painful injury and is most common in shoulders, elbows, fingers, kneecap, and femur-tibia or knee.

Exercises like ‘pushing’, ‘pulling’ and daily walking may all increase muscle strength and function! Movement and exercise following surgery is essential to a healthy recovery. Talk to your doctor and care team about what recovery activities are best for you and when it is safe to do them.

All surgery carries risk. See your orthopaedic surgeon to discuss your potential benefits and risks. Not all patients will have the same post-operative recovery and activity level. Individual results vary. For more information, visit https://patients.stryker.com

Did you know smoking and alcohol can have a negative impact on bone health?

Ni****ne reduces blood flow to bones, inhibits your body’s ability to absorb calcium, and slows down bone-forming cells. In women, ni****ne also accelerates the breakdown of estrogen - impacting bone health.

Alcohol disrupts your body’s natural bone renewal process, increases your risk of developing osteoporosis, and can cause irreversible adverse impacts.

Don't keep adding stress to your bones - talk with your healthcare provider today for support!
