Hanan Counseling is excited to welcome another great girl to the practice! She comes with a wealth of knowledge in multiple different areas & we are so excited to have her on the team. She will be ready to see clients starting next week! Here is a little bit about Alyssa Nicholson:
Alyssa works with adolescents and adults navigating neurodivergence, anxiety, depression, burnout, life transitions, and substance use concerns. She also specializes in working with autistic children and has a passion for supporting parents and caregivers of neurodivergent children.
Believing that the real agent of change is a supportive relationship, Alyssa integrates attachment-based, relational work with all ages. She helps clients understand patterns, build regulation skills, and develop ways of living that feel attainable. Her approach is trauma-informed and emphasizes autonomy, nervous system support, and connection.
Her background in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) informs a strong understanding of behavior, while her current approach moves away from compliance-based models and instead focuses on the underlying “why” behind behavior. With children, she uses play-based approaches to support emotional expression, regulation, and connection, and works closely with parents to reduce meltdowns and improve daily routines. With adolescents and adults, she supports both deeper processing and the development of lasting coping skills.
Alyssa earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Texas Christian University and holds a bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Sciences from Texas Tech University.
Her style is collaborative, intentional and grounded, with an emphasis on meaningful, lasting change. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, crocheting, gardening, and baking.
