It’s been two years since Adam finished chemo! He had his two year scans and he remains cancer-free!!
His doctor said making it to the two year mark is a BIG milestone. The chance of reoccurrence decreases substantially after two years. His scans will now be moved from every four months to every five months. He has very few side effects from treatment. The few that he does have, he is managing well.
The weight of relief on Adam’s face was noticeable today. We’re all feeling a sigh of relief. This journey has been a long arduous road and it’s finally, finally beginning to feel a little bit easier. 😮💨
He’s almost done with his sophomore year at Nebraska! He will be taking more summer classes at Normandale and may just graduate in 2027 like he planned on before cancer changed his plans. 💪
I also want to remind you that any lumps, bumps or pain that keeps you up at night is not normal. Push for answers and don’t give up. I am forever grateful Adam confided in me about the lump near his groin area. It felt like a ball of rubber bands. I know that was hard for a teenage boy to talk to his mom about. We doctored for three months with inconclusive answers. Finally I said “let’s just get it out”. The surgeon removed it the best he could and we soon learned that lump was a cancerous tumor on his pelvis and unfortunately they did not get clear margins. He had bone cancer. In hindsight, I wish I would have asked for a MRI. I know I can’t change what happened but I can share his story in hopes of helping others.
Parents, encourage your kids to be their best health advocate!! I know it saved Adam’s life 💛🎗️💛
