There’s something about a rainy Rhode Island day that invites us to slow down☔️ With the nor’easter bringing plenty of rain our way, we hope everyone is staying dry, safe, and cozy at home! Days like today give us permission to move a little slower — to rest, tackle something around the house we’ve been putting off, make a warm meal, or simply enjoy the comfort of being home.

It also has us thinking about what a privilege it is to be welcomed into someone else’s home. Every home tells a story. The photos and decor, the familiar routines, the favorite chair, the little traditions, and all the details that make a space uniquely theirs🤍

This photo is from the home of one of our patients. Each time we visit, she prepares breakfast or a snack for us to share. We sit together, eat, talk, laugh, and simply enjoy each other’s company. It may seem like a small gesture, but these are the moments we look forward to more than you might think!

Here at BPC, our team works to manage symptoms such as pain, fatigue, and stress while also providing emotional, social, and spiritual support for both our patients and their families. We collaborate with providers to ensure care is aligned with each person’s goals, values, and needs.

At Baxter Palliative Care, we recognize that care goes beyond medical support🌱

Pet therapy is one of the many ways we help nurture emotional and mental well-being, creating moments of peace, joy, and connection. Studies have shown that interactions with therapy animals can help reduce stress, lower blood pressure, ease feelings of anxiety and depression, improve mood and social engagement, and so much more. For individuals receiving palliative care, these moments of connection can be especially impactful — offering comfort, companionship, and a sense of calm during difficult times.
