🏭 A Look Back at Local History

May 8, 1961 — inside the Green Giant plant in Dayton.

These photos offer a fascinating glimpse into a working day more than 65 years ago—from the plant itself to the men and women who helped keep production moving.

For many families throughout our region, places like this weren’t just businesses—they were where people worked, friendships were formed, and generations made their living.

Do you remember the Green Giant plant in Dayton? Maybe you or someone in your family worked there? We’d love to hear your memories.

😵‍💫 Ever Stand Up and Suddenly Feel Dizzy?

That brief lightheaded feeling can happen when your blood pressure temporarily drops after you stand up—a condition known as orthostatic hypotension.

It can be more likely when you’re:
💧 Dehydrated
☀️ Overheated
🛏️ Getting up after sitting or lying down for a while
💊 Taking certain medications

Usually, the feeling passes quickly. Standing up slowly and staying hydrated may help.

If dizziness happens frequently, causes you to faint, or is accompanied by other concerning symptoms, talk with your healthcare provider.

Has this ever happened to you? 💙

☀️ DID YOU KNOW?

Some medications can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, increasing your risk of sunburn or other skin reactions.

Certain antibiotics, diuretics, acne medications, and other commonly used medicines may cause sun sensitivity.

If you’re taking medication:
✔️ Check the label for sun-exposure warnings
✔️ Use broad-spectrum sunscreen
✔️ Wear protective clothing when outdoors
✔️ Ask your pharmacist or healthcare provider if you’re unsure

Don’t stop taking a medication because of sun sensitivity without first talking with your healthcare provider.

A little knowledge can help you enjoy the sunshine safely. 💙

🌫️ Wildfire Smoke: How to Protect Yourself

Wildfire smoke can affect anyone, but it’s especially important for children, older adults, pregnant individuals, and people with heart or lung conditions to take extra precautions.

Here are a few ways to stay safe:

✔️ Stay indoors when air quality is poor.
✔️ Keep windows and doors closed.
✔️ Use an air purifier or run your HVAC system with a clean filter if available.
✔️ Avoid strenuous outdoor activities until air quality improves.
✔️ If you must be outside for an extended period, consider wearing a well-fitting N95 mask.

If you’re experiencing persistent coughing, difficulty breathing, chest pain, or worsening asthma symptoms, contact your healthcare provider. If symptoms are severe, seek emergency medical care.

A little preparation can go a long way in protecting your health during wildfire season. Stay safe, Walla Walla. 💙
