I do this practice myself. Pretty much every morning I check my chickens and my bees. lol... I have been doing this for years. Interesting that I came across this video

You don't need to open your hive to know what's happening inside it...

Today was a beekkeeper day. Went into both hives.
Video was a fail but its ok
Happy with what I saw.
I didn't go into the brood boxes. So much propolis sealing the boxes together

With such young hives -I chose not to set them back by looking at frames individually

I know most beekeepers will think that I should have but here is what I saw.
Looking into the brood box - all the frames are full except the ends which is typical

The 10 frame Super had 4 and a half full frames of honey. So they have a bunch of room to fill some more - only honey - no brood - no pollen. I dont put in queen excluders on new hives - so their choice

The 8 frame had their super with 3 partial frames of honey. Only honey - plenty of room to expand for winter stores.

I do not feed sugar water as I observe pretty much every day they are bringing in loads of pollen

Of course I will take no honey at all this year as I am letting them grow and establish strong hives

Temperament- the spicy 10 frame was much more docile today. I think it helps that I didn't attempt the brood box today.

The 8 frame was their usual quiet and calm hive.

Neither one of the hives - attacked or stayed with my suit when I left the yard.

I do go out and watch them in front of the hive almost every day so maybe they sense it's me.

Anyway other than feeling like I have heat stroke right now and dealing with the damn smoker...the worst part of beekeeping in my opinion

I am so happy with the results so far. The bees are doing well. This will be my first fall-winter figuring out how to care for them

So more to come

Little by little so exciting

Created a fairy garden for my grandkids in Jacksonville. We had so much fun and they could see it from their bedroom windows
