To wrap up our National Mobility Awareness Month + Older Americans Month series, we're spotlighting the OT whose work inspired our final post.

Emily Steedman, OTR/L + RAC-CT, asks every client one question that isn't on any standard intake form: "What's one thing you wish you could do again?"

The answer from one of her clients, a woman who had been told she'd never walk again, stopped us in our tracks. It's a story about what happens when care is built around a real person, not a diagnosis. And it's a reminder that a great OT, paired with the right home care support, can unlock outcomes families didn't think were possible anymore.

We're so glad Emily shared it with us. ✨ Meet Tanicha — Staffing Manager

We’re excited to introduce Tanicha Collins, Hillendale’s Staffing Manager. Tanicha brings valuable experience in both caregiving and staffing, giving her a unique perspective on supporting the caregivers and clients we serve.

Originally from Southern California, Tanicha moved to Northern California in 2017 and began working as a caregiver for two home care agencies. She was promoted from caregiver to Staffing & Hiring Manager, helping recruit and support the caregivers who make quality home care possible. After stepping away during the pandemic to focus on caregiving, she joined Hillendale in 2022.

Tanicha’s passion for caring for others grew through babysitting, working as a live-in nanny, and caring for her own grandparents—experiences that shaped her commitment to protecting and advocating for those who need support.

At Hillendale, Tanicha values being part of a compassionate and supportive team. Outside of work, she enjoys baking and spending time with her daughter, and in 2023 she even started a small home bakery business.

We’re grateful for the care, dedication, and perspective Tanicha brings to the Hillendale community every day.

A day late, but this one is worth sharing!

Yesterday, Skylar Wondrusch performed at Via Monte in honor of Memorial Day, and got to celebrate Dick B. — Via Monte's most decorated veteran — in person.

Skylar sings at senior living communities across Contra Costa County on behalf of Hillendale, bringing live music and a little joy to the people we care about most. Moments like this one are exactly why we do it.

Meet Sheri Mutaramutswa, Hillendale's Rookie Caregiver of the Quarter.

The Rookie award goes to a caregiver who, in their first months with us, has already shown what it looks like to care with humanity. Sheri has earned it, and we made sure to celebrate accordingly: sash, ceremonial check, flowers, and a whole room of teammates cheering her on.

Recognition like this is part of how we built Hillendale. Our caregivers are W-2 employees, fully insured and bonded.
