Can I talk about GLP-1s and cancer for a second? Because this is getting really interesting.
Most people know GLP-1 medications for diabetes and weight loss. But researchers are now looking at something much bigger, their potential impact on cancer risk and outcomes.
Recent studies presented at major cancer conferences have found associations between GLP-1 use and:
✔️ Lower rates of certain cancers
✔️ Reduced progression to advanced-stage disease
✔️ Improved survival rates in some cancer populations
Now before anyone gets excited, let’s be clear: these studies show an association, not proof. GLP-1s are NOT cancer treatments, and they are not approved to prevent cancer.
But here’s why I’m paying attention.
Cancer isn’t just about genetics. It’s also influenced by inflammation, insulin resistance, hormones, visceral fat, and metabolic health. And those are areas where GLP-1s appear to have significant effects.
The big question researchers are trying to answer is: Are the benefits simply from weight loss, or are these medications improving the body’s metabolic environment in ways that may help reduce cancer risk?
We don’t have all the answers yet, but this is definitely a conversation worth watching.
What are your thoughts? Have you heard about this research?
