COVER-UPS: LET’S ACTUALLY COVER IT UP!

Not every “cover-up” is created the same. Nathan specializes in true cover-up work. That means the goal is to take that old tattoo and hide it, not just put another tattoo over it and let pieces of the original show through.

You may have heard the term blast-over, where a new tattoo is intentionally placed over an existing one and the old tattoo remains visible underneath.

That’s not what we do.

Nathan approaches cover-ups with the goal of making the original tattoo disappear into the new design through thoughtful composition, contrast, color, shading, and placement. Every cover-up has its own challenges, and sometimes the best solution requires getting creative with the design. But the goal stays the same:

THE MORE YOU KNOW: TATTOO SAFETY!

A tattoo is an open wound, so safety and sanitation aren’t optional,they’re part of the job. Here are a few things your tattoo artist should be doing:

•Fresh gloves — Gloves should be changed whenever they become contaminated and between clients.

•Proper disinfection — Work surfaces and equipment that may become contaminated should be cleaned and disinfected with products appropriate for tattooing.

•Single-use needles & cartridges — Needles that pe*****te the skin should be sterile and intended for single use. They should never be reused between clients.

•Sterile supplies — Sterile, single-use items should remain packaged until they’re needed.

•Sharps disposal — Used needles don’t go in the regular trash. They belong in an appropriate sharps container.

•Hand hygiene — Gloves don’t replace washing your hands. Proper hand hygiene happens before and after procedures and whenever gloves are changed.

•Cross-contamination prevention — Anything that could come into contact with contaminated surfaces needs to be properly protected, cleaned, or discarded.

A professional tattoo isn’t just about how the finished piece looks. How safely it gets there matters just as much. Next time you’re in a tattoo studio, don’t be afraid to pay attention to the process. A good artist should be happy to explain how they keep you and themselves safe. 🖤

There’s a lot more that goes into a tattoo studio than what you see when the machine turns on. We designed Moving Pictures Tattoo Cinema to be clean, safe, comfortable, and adaptable for our clients. The space is built to be convertible depending on what’s happening in the studio, while keeping sanitation and client safety at the forefront.

And then there’s the work. The man behind it all. Nathan specializes in bold color, color surrealism, realism, black & gray, wildlife, florals, cover-ups, and large-scale custom pieces. His favorite projects are the ones where an idea can be taken and turned into something completely unique to the person wearing it.

So whether you’re coming in for a small piece or a multi-session project, the goal is the same: Make you feel comfortable. Keep you safe. Create something you’re proud to wear.

WHILE NATHAN IS AWAY… HERE’S A LITTLE REMINDER OF WHAT HE DOES!

We figured we’d let the work do the talking. Nathan is best known for his bold color and surrealism, but his portfolio covers a lot of ground. Realism, black & gray, wildlife, florals, cover-ups, large-scale pieces, and plenty of weird and wonderful custom ideas in between. Every tattoo starts with the person wearing it. The goal is to build something that fits your body, your style, and your story, not just recreate a picture.

With Nathan out of the studio this week, we figured it was only fair to give Jeni the spotlight! Jeni has been piercing professionally for 20+ years, specializing in body piercings and jewelry installs. So while Nathan is off adventuring, Jeni is here keeping the studio pierced, sparkly, and exciting.

Fun fact about Jeni: She absolutely loves all things spooky, gothic, and Victorian. Give her creepy old architecture, Victorian oddities, dark decor, or anything that looks like it belongs in a haunted mansion and she’s probably interested. 🖤
