Gary Allen Vervaet
Gary Allen Vervaet, 79, passed away on Aug. 16, 2026.
Born in South Bend, Gary lived a life defined by hard work, laughter, friendship, and, above all, a deep love for his family.
Gary proudly served his country in the United States Army for six years. Following his military service, he began building what would become a long and accomplished career in the orthopedic industry. Prior to joining Zimmer Orthopedics, Gary spent six years with RACO Inc. in South Bend, where he worked in production management. He later joined Zimmer Orthopedics in Warsaw, where he enjoyed a highly successful career and became a respected leader within the organization. Gary took great pride in his work and in the relationships he built throughout his career, retiring after nearly 30 years of dedicated service.
Outside of work, Gary knew how to enjoy life. He loved camping, riding his Harley, spending time outdoors, and being surrounded by his family and friends. He had an unforgettable sense of humor and a personality that could fill a room. There was truly never a dull moment when Gary was around. He loved to laugh, make others laugh, and enjoy the simple things in life with the people who meant the most to him.
Above all else, Gary loved his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. His family was an important part of his life, and the love he had for them will remain a lasting part of his legacy.
Gary is survived by his children: Brittney Vervaet, Ashley (Jim Wolf) Vervaet, Gary Vervaet, and Gage Vervaet; his grandchildren: Taylor Abshire (Nick), Tealsee Kincaid (Keegan), Trace Harris (Casey), Kinsley Pollitt, Rhett Stouder, Mali Bontrager, Raegan Vervaet, and Westin Vervaet; and his great-grandchildren: Brixx, Adari, Ronnie Rose, Kyren, Costa, Kaleolani, Kalo, Ziggy, and Vivian. He is also survived by his siblings: Geoffrey Vervaet (Georganne), Gregg Vervaet, and his baby sister, Jill Price (Reece), along with many extended family members and friends whose lives were touched by Gary throughout the years.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents: Cyril and Betty Vervaet; his oldest daughter: Darcie Lynn Vervaet; and his great-granddaughter, Ronnie Rose Kincaid.
Gary will be remembered for the life he lived, the laughter he brought into a room, the friendships he built, and the love he had for his family. His presence was larger than life, and the memories he created with those who knew and loved him will be carried forward for generations.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Gary’s honor at a later date. Details will be shared with family and friends once arrangements have been finalized.
