💙 Today is World Maternal Mental Health Day, and I’m here to help spread the word of what maternal mental health is.

💙 Maybe you’ve heard the term PMAD’s but you’re not quite sure what it means. Scroll through to learn a bit more.

PMAD’s are a group of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders that can be experienced at any point during pregnancy, after loss, or up to one year postpartum.

Hormonal shifts, body changes, prior mental health history, stress, and life circumstances can all contribute.

Fun fact: Up to 1 in 5 women and 1 in 10 men may experience depression or anxiety in the perinatal period.

May is maternal mental health monthđź’™

Behind the smiles, photos, and the “I’m fine” many mothers are suffering in silence. Maternal mental health matters, not just during pregnancy, but postpartum and beyond.

1 in 5 women experience a perinatal mood or anxiety disorder. These are common, treatable, and deserving of real support - not silence, shame, or pressure to “bounce back.”

Taking care of a mother’s mental health is not a luxury. It’s a necessity. When mothers are supported, the family unit feels stronger, and children can thrive.

If you’re struggling, reach out for support. If you know, a mother in the throes of postpartum, reach out and check in on her. Listen without fixing. Show up without judgment.

Let’s keep talking, keep supporting, and keep making space for the fall, honest experience of motherhood.

As a member of the RI chapter of Postpartum Support International, I’m proud to be part of The Climb! It is the largest international event dedicated to raising awareness and funds for perinatal mental health disorders.

Join on Sunday, May 31st at C**t State Park in Bristol, RI for a time of connection, community, and support. Whether you’re a provider, parent, advocate, or supporter—your presence matters.

✨ Short walk
✨ Community resource fair
✨ Family-friendly activities

Together, we can break stigma, build connection, and ensure every birthing person and family has access to the support they deserve.

If you provide support, services, or products for the perinatal population in Rhode Island, and you would like to be a vendor at this event, please reach out to me for more details and to be added to the vendor list.

I love “maternal mental health day” at Moms Club where I get to meet new moms and have conversations about maternal mental health. The conversations are real, and sometimes raw, about the challenges moms face whether it’s your first baby, or 5th. I always appreciate the true vulnerabilities that come through and the connections for moms that are made as a result.

If you are interested in learning more about Mom’s Club, or any other services at Mothers Haven Collective, check out their Instagram which will lead you to their link. I love being part of the collective and learning more about the different services that can help moms throughout stages of motherhood.

My heart is with the Brown University community, the families who have lost loved ones, those injured, staff, first responders, and everyone in Providence, Rhode Island, and beyond who has been affected by this tragic shooting.

Events like this in our own community can stir fear, grief, and uncertainty—whether we were directly affected or not.

Be gentle with yourself, check in with loved ones, and remember that reaching out for help is a sign of strength. Healing happens when we come together as a community.

Please, reach out of you feel like you need support.

Hi! It’s been a long time since I’ve done an introduction post, so let’s do this! 💛

My name is Jennifer, and I’m a mental health therapist certified in Perinatal Mental Health, with a fully virtual private practice based here in Rhode Island.

I’m also a mom to my 8-year-old daughter, Mackenzie, who has helped me grow in more ways than I ever expected. I know firsthand how emotional and challenging the postpartum period can be — and how those big feelings continue well beyond the first year. Eight years into motherhood, and I’m still learning every day.

A few fun facts about me:
✨ I live for RI summers and spend as much time at the beach as possible.
✨ My favorite color is lavender.
✨ I love a good coffee by day and the occasional espresso martini by night.
✨ I’m on the PTO at my daughter’s school — being part of our community brings me so much joy.

Supporting moms through the emotions, identity shifts, and transitions of motherhood is truly my passion. Becoming a mother is one of the biggest role transitions you will experience — beautifully meaningful, but often messy and overwhelming too.

I’m here to be part of your village, to walk alongside you, to listen, to see you, and to support you every step of the way. 💜

đź’ś What Are PMADs? đź’ś

💜 PMADs — or Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders — are the most common complications of pregnancy and postpartum. They include postpartum depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, and (less commonly) postpartum psychosis.

💜 PMADs can affect anyone — regardless of background, birth story, or how much they love their baby. They’re not a sign of weakness or failure, but rather a sign that your mind and body need care and support.

đź’ś The good news? PMADs are treatable with the right support and care.

💜 If you’re struggling during pregnancy or at any point after birth, please know: you’re not alone, and help is available. Reach out for more information on scheduling an appointment.

October 15th — Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day 💗💙
Today, we honor and remember the babies who left this world too soon, and we hold in our hearts the parents and families who carry their love and grief every single day.

You are not alone.
Your loss matters.
Your love endures.

At 7 PM tonight, people around the world will light a candle for the Wave of Light, joining together in remembrance and solidarity. ✨

If you’re grieving, know that there is no timeline for healing — and that support, compassion, and community can help carry you through.

🤍 Sending love and light to all who mourn, remember, and hold space for loss today and every day.
