5 things to STOP doing to do your Hair if you want to keep it healthy and looking it's best!
- Stop keeping direct heat on hair when blow drying, the problem starts when you use too high of heat and keep the air concentrated in one place too long. This runs the risk of literally having your hair fry and break off. Try using cool or medium heat!
- Stop using unprofessional products ! Unprofessional products contain a ton of fillers, parabins and sulfates that damage the hair and strip it of it's color. This causes the product to be very concentrated so compared to professional products, you need to use way more of it to get your desired look. Also, these brands put waxes and silicon into their product that leave your hair looks shiny, but it the end damage it more and leave a funky build up or film on the hair. (especially if you have hard water) Many of these cheaper products actually contain ingredients included in engine cleaners and antifreeze for cars. I can't imagine this is good for your hair and skin. When it comes to skin care, many products can be way to abrasive for skin and actually increase signs of aging from creating microscopic tears in skin, which eventually develops into scar tissue. And as far as those "professional products" you buy while at the grocery store, have you ever noticed that packaging clearly says it can only guaranteed if purchased in salon? That's right. What you end up paying the same price for anyway, is typically expired or diluted product that was given to convenience store to sell since the salon couldn't sell it anymore. So please, for your hair, skin, and personal product in the salon!
- Don't be rough with your wet hair!
When your hair is wet its much weaker than when its dry. Because of this, you have to careful when combing through it and drying it. Firstly, don't use a super abrasive towel on your hair when removing excess moisture!
Secondly, use a wide tooth comp when detangling your hair. Try using a leave in conditioner or detangling agent to help speed up process without causing harm to the hair.
- Stop washing your hair every day!
It doesn't need to be done. In fact a healthy scalp and hair requires the natural oils that your body produces. By shampooing every day you remove those oils and in turn, your scalp starts working double time to produce them. And here's a big shock to some-- this is why your hair gets dirty so quickly. Stop making your scalp work so hard to replenish those natural oils.
- Stop using thermal styling tools on wet or damp hair!
Remember earlier when I said that hair is weakest when it's wet? Well using a thermal iron on even slightly damp hair is putting you at risk for severe damage. Make sure your hair is completely dry before putting an iron to it.
So if you feel like you've tried everything and your hair still isn't in prime condition, I would suggest making sure you're not doing any of the things listed above!
