Feeling better isn’t the same as being better. But it might be the best time to start.

Something happens this time of year. The days get longer, the light lingers, and something inside you loosens. If you live in DC, you know the feeling. The city runs hard, and summer is one of the few moments it actually eases up.

We see it in our sessions every year. When the heaviness lifts, it’s easy to assume the hard stuff has passed. But that lightness isn’t resolution, it’s an opening. A rare window when you have the capacity to look at what’s been sitting underneath.

You don’t have to be in crisis to deserve support. Sometimes the best time to begin is exactly when you have a little breathing room.

What does “breathing room” look like for you this time of year? Tell us below.

Real community connection (the kind that happens outside, in person, with your neighbors) is one of the most underrated things you can do for your mental health.

That’s why we’re excited to sponsor ’ annual Garden Fiesta. This year’s theme is Enchanted Forest, a celebration of kid-driven green spaces that make our city beautiful.

Join us for an evening of community on Friday, June 12th!

Eight years ago, Heidi and Marjorie sat down at a kitchen table in DC and decided to build a different kind of therapy practice.

They believed this city, with all its pace, pressure, and complexity, deserved a practice with a real team culture, neighborhood roots, and therapists who actually understand the world their clients are living in.

DC isn’t one community. It’s diplomats and transplants, lifelong Washingtonians and first-generation Americans, high-achievers carrying the weight of their careers alongside the weight of where they come from. KCC was built with all of that in mind.

KCC therapist MorganBarney sat down with founders Heidi and Marjorie to hear the whole story.

What did it actually take to build a thriving therapy practice in DC? Hear more about the pivots, the hard seasons, the moments they almost didn’t make it, and what kept them going anyway.

What matters most to you when you’re choosing a therapist or a practice? Tell us in the comments.

The thing you keep skipping in therapy? That’s usually the thing that needs your attention.

Money is one of those topics that most people avoid talking about.

We sat down with financial coach Keina Newell () on the Money Files podcast to talk about what money conversations actually look like inside a therapy room because they’re happening a lot less than they should be.

We got into how financial stress shows up in the body before it ever surfaces in words. How anxiety about money can trace back further than you’d expect, sometimes before you were even born. And why therapists have a responsibility to ask, even when clients never bring it up.

A piece of advice that stands out: if there’s a money conversation you know you need to have with your therapist but keep avoiding, send them an email right now. Just say: Please ask me about my money patterns. They’ll take it from there.

Is there something you’ve been meaning to bring up in therapy but keep finding reasons not to? What gets in the way?

Mother's Day looks different for a lot of women in midlife.

Because underneath the celebrations, many are quietly wondering: why don’t I feel like myself lately?

Perimenopause can begin years before your last period. The hormonal shifts that come with it affect far more than your body: they shape your mood, your sleep, your concentration, and your sense of who you are.

This profound transition is often ignored or brushed off. But it deserves real support.

KCC therapist Morgan Chafin shares how therapy can help you move through it with compassion rather than self-criticism.

You’ll read about the surprising connection between your mental wellbeing and hormonal health.

For women in or approaching midlife, perimenopause and menopause have a way of arriving quietly, often in the middle of everything else. Mother’s Day, work deadlines, aging parents, the ordinary weight of a full life. While menopause is frequently framed as a physical milestone, its emotional and ...

If you live in the DMV long enough, you start to notice people running on fumes, exhausted and stretched thin.

therapist Tessa Rudnick, LGSW, sits down to talk about what burnout actually looks like in our area. She explores the unique pressure of living and working in a city where urgency is part of the culture, and how that pressure takes a toll that can be hard to name until you are already running on empty.

The first step is recognizing it for what it is. Watch the full reel for her observations and gentle guidance on what recovery can look like, not as another thing to optimize, but as something you truly deserve.

💬 What does burnout feel like in your body? We would love to hear from you.

If you are a therapist who wants the independence of private practice and the collaboration of teamwork, we’d love to meet you.

At , we’re growing our team this summer and looking for a graduate level or clinically licensed child and family therapist (LPC, LCSW, MFT) to join us in DC. Beyond seeing clients, become part of a practice that feels as intentional as the work itself.

We’re independently owned by two women who are also licensed therapists. Which means we understand the rewards and challenges of the work. You’ll have autonomy in how you practice, with a supportive team that respects your clinical voice.

You will find a welcoming, thoughtfully designed office, a collaborative team, an inclusive practice, and a culture where people genuinely care about the work and about each other.

If we sound like what you’ve been looking for, please reach out.

🌍 Another year. Another beautiful reminder of why we love our community.

We had the best time showing up for our neighborhood at this year’s Earth Day Clean Up, picking up litter, getting our hands a little dirty, and being surrounded by people who genuinely care about this place we all call home.

Caring for the earth and caring for each other aren’t so different. Both ask us to slow down, pay attention, and show up, even when it’s inconvenient.

Thank you to everyone in the neighborhood who came out and made it such a meaningful afternoon. 🌱
