Sharing this for myself and anyone else out there who’s been DEEPLY hungering for fall’s return to rhythm and routine—and ALLLLL the things to be figured out it again already!!!!

Let’s remember to breathe into the small shifts already happening and happened, remembering that this small perspective shift can change SO. MUCH.

When you read these captions, you’ll understand why I’m belated in sharing this news…as it’s all felt soooo…surreal…uncertain…new…evolving.

This April, I took on an exciting (and slightly daunting!) new role, leading the Reiki Program with the Johns Hopkins/Sibley Hospital’s Cancer Survivorship Program.

When I interviewed for the job, I had little experience offering Reiki to cancer patients, survivors or caregivers (just a smidge from folks in my studio classes), and no hospital-based Reiki experience.

I did, however, have a LOT of practice using Reiki to help 100s of people facing all manner of personal and professional challenges find restoration, balance, calm and healing in an array of settings. I had a heart drawn to helping. A personal understanding of the profound physical and emotional healing that can come from practices like this that help us find our way back to self again, back to partnership, back to that inner calm and light we’ve lost touch with, but that always live within.

Amidst the onboarding process late last fall, I found myself reaching out to my boss personally for advice…

As my beloved husband received a cancer diagnosis.

The world stopped for a little while then. We shut down and shut the world out. Pretended to others that things were normal as we learned what was happening and what it meant, one excruciatingly long hour at a time.

It felt like an eternity. It seemed insane that the world was continuing to spin, people going about the most everyday things next to us as our own world upended.

When I look back now at how the greater story has unfolded, I still feel the sting and intensity, the life-or-death held breath of those moments. And I know now that WOW. We are SO. LUCKY.

It was a rare malignant tumor they found when something routine and unrelated went awry. It feels weird to say, but thank God things were screwy so we found out and could take action now.

It was treatable via surgery alone. No chemo. No radiation. The prognosis is excellent.

In January, Mike had surgery and during his eons-long-feeling 8-day hospital stay, I shared hands-on Reiki with him every day. For him. For me. For us. (CONTINUED IN COMMENTS)

Anyone else feeling a major shedding of skins? A sense of outgrowing some things and (gulp) that it’s time to shift into the next version?

Couple Observations:
1) JOURNALING IS SOOOO HELPFUL!
I haven’t journaled regularly in a couple years—I often view it as a crisis-time activity because it’s been KEY for me in those times. But I felt strongly called to start a “morning pages” habit again: freewriting a few pages of WHATEVER comes out before starting my day—and *critically* absolving myself of any need for these to be coherent or good writing or anything other than a brain and emotional dump JUST FOR ME.

It has been AMAZING. So much release. Clarity. Realization amidst overwhelm that often the actual to-do’s and to-face’s isn’t as long as it feels in my head. Prioritization. Lots of “if this worked out perfectly how would it unfold?” (And a surprising amount of some variation actually happening!)

So a hint that if YOU’RE moving through some skin-shedding, friction, overwhelm, a time of seeking clarity…this practice can be sooo helpful! Not a morning person? Do it when you can! A pre-bedtime brain and energetic release can ALSO be extremely powerful.

2) MY PINK SPARKLE IS BACK!
My childhood color was pink sparkle. As much as possible. As I did some inner child work along my healing journey (including one mind-blowing meditation with UVYoga | Yuval YBoogie Kripalu !), I realized how cut off I’d become from the hue and FEELING.

When asked what color represented the me before all the hurt and anxiety and learned dimming of self…oh man! A giant pink sparkly bubble of light enveloped me.

The color has found its way into my journals, meditations, crystals, social posts, MY HAIR! Didn’t see this coming. But it really does help me reanchor in that brightest, sparkliest 7-year-old self who just loved to shine and dance and sing and twirl and climb trees and ride bikes and write and read and love with her WHOLE heart and swim and eat cookies and fruit…because her soul and sparkle and heart were in charge. No one or anything else.

Maybe there’s a color inside YOU that wants to resurface and be embraced? What does it represent and what ways might you welcome it back?

Accompanied hubs to an infrared sauna & cold plunge spot today (1st for us!!). I wanted to support his efforts to listen to his body more and explore new healthy habits (and catch him if he slipped coming out of the arctic water 🤣).

I KNEW none of this would probably be my thing…but went in open-minded and deeply listening to my body.

About 12 minutes into the sauna I started to feel lightheaded so stepped out. And I made it knee deep into the cold plunge — more than I’d intended! And felt my experience was complete.

Hubs LOVED both and is ready for a membership.

I share this as an illustration that not every THING is for every BODY.

If we live in a body that’s been on overload too long…extremes might not be supportive. For me, too steep, too fast, too hot or cold, too sudden…nope.

Pushing too hard was my default for decades, and echoes of that depletion remain.

My system, my BODY craves enveloping nourishment, calm and restoration. Gentle challenge on occasion. Play! Joy! DEEP LISTENING and partnership.

My work is an outgrowth of what I most needed before and in my depletion crisis, and continue to need. And is meant to nourish those who may have bodies and systems that are depleted, overwhelmed, and hungry for tender, embracing nourishment, too.

I used to feel sad my body “couldn’t do” intense things anymore, like running or hot power flow…

But a looong road of healing and perspective shifting has taught me that each of us is distinct in our needs, abilities, strengths, and sooo much more—as are each season and moment.

That it’s not a contest.

That the bigger questions are “What *CAN* I do?” “What is needed?” (And “What ISN’T?!”)

That “yoga” really means being with, listening deeply to and LOVING yourself—exactly how you are today.

Some of my favorite people lift heavy and run marathons and cold plunge. And I applaud and celebrate them and their partnership with their bodies!

And I’m going to keep listening to and partnering with mine…taking things slowly, often on a bolster (or dance floor!), leaning always toward what would feel nourishing and supportive to my sweet body, system and soul.

Just finalized the menu for my ✨🌳Re-Rooting Fall Women’s Retreat🌳✨ with Victoria Cortes of Sungold Kitchen — and I’m sooo excited…and also very hungry all of a sudden, ha!

Victoria created the most beautiful and delicious anti-inflammatory meals for our retreat last fall — including a soul-AND-body-nourishing black bean and sweet potato enchilada casserole (pic 9!) and crazy yummy grain-free quiche (variation in pic 4). Her food deftly navigated a handful of complex dietary needs, felt so clean and healthy, and received rave reviews all around.

(I wish we’d gotten more glamorous shots of her 2025 retreat meals but we were too busy rushing them onto our plates and into our mouths! The more polished food pix are from this summer’s Sungold Anti-Inflammatory Meal Program, a huge treat and fun chance to explore some new retreat meal ideas!)

It’s not easy pulling together offerings like retreats (SO many moving parts!). And Victoria made one aspect so easy, even packing her own coolers for me to borrow and helping load them into my too-small, bursting-at-the-seams car. 🤣

It’s really energizing to partner with another amazing, talented femalepreneur and be able to uplift, celebrate and support one another’s work. Grateful to be teaming up again!
