Every physician in DC knows a colleague who quietly disappeared from practice. Most never found out why.
The Healthy Physician Foundation has launched Between Colleagues — a campaign to fund physician-to-physician resources that open the conversation about burnout and addiction before it reaches a crisis point.
At the center of the campaign is Dr. Maya R., a composite surgeon whose story is anonymized but built from real experiences in our medical community. Her path from moral injury to the edge of addiction, and the eight words a colleague said that changed her trajectory, is the most honest account of what this crisis looks like from the inside.
