Research shows that those living without health insurance are more likely to get a late-stage cancer diagnosis than someone with insurance – which means uninsured patients are less likely to survive. Medicaid expansion would close the gap between those with and without insurance. Together, we can put Medicaid expansion on the 2028 ballot

We are so appreciative of ACS CAN Florida Advocates Dawn, Marie, and Melissa for representing us at the Wilton Manors Stonewall Pride yesterday! Together, they helped spread the word about our continued efforts to expand Medicaid in the state of Florida and got information out about how others could share their stories of how cancer has impacted their lives!

ACS CAN participates in Pride events throughout the country to offer resources and information to LGBTQIA+ people that continue to face a political climate that impacts their ability to get safe, quality, comprehensive, and inclusive care without the fear of discrimination.

Honoring and celebrating Pride isn’t limited to just one day or month, it is year-round, as is our support and allyship for our LGBTQIA+ communities.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released an interim final rule on Medicaid work requirements, which makes it more difficult for people who are medically frail—including people with cancer—to be exempt from the work requirements as Congress intended as part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

“We are incredibly concerned by the impact this rule could have on those struggling with cancer," says ACS CAN President Lisa A. Lacasse. "The new restrictions link the definition of medical frailty to a person’s ability to work. This would mean cancer patients and survivors who are suffering from debilitating side effects of the disease or treatment would have to officially prove they can’t work, in a process that is likely to be difficult and take a long time."

ACS CAN previously urged CMS to establish strong protections for cancer patients and survivors to minimize coverage loss and ensure the process to qualify for an exemption or meet the work requirement is manageable.
We call on officials at every level of government to clearly communicate these new requirements to Medicaid enrollees to minimize confusion and coverage loss for individuals who remain eligible.
