Novartis has halted their CAR-T clinical trials for lupus and other autoimmune diseases after 3 patients suffered fatal inflammatory reactions. Bristol Myers Squibb separately paused enrollment in its own CAR-T trials after observing transient, reversible inflammatory events. CAR-T remains an experimental approach for lupus, and these developments reinforce the need for continued research into both its potential benefits and risks.
