A few weeks ago, NACDD staff visited the Hill for an ABLE 3.0 event.

Normally, having more than $2,000 in the bank disqualifies you from programs like SSI, Medicaid, or SNAP. But ABLE accounts let you save safely without worrying about losing benefits!

What to know:
Keep your benefits: Save up to $100,000 without affecting your SSI.
Flexible spending: Use the tax-free funds for everyday needs like housing, food, transportation, and medical care.
Team effort: Family and friends can contribute directly to the account.

If your disability began before age 46, you may be eligible to open an account for yourself or a loved one.

Want to see if you qualify, compare state plans, or get started? Learn more on the ABLE website:

On the heels of our post yesterday about NACDD attending the Age+Action Conference, we are resharing a related webinar from earlier this year that featured guest organization Justice In Aging.

During this educational webinar, we discuss how Medicaid’s coverage gap is pushing aging and disabled individuals away from home- and community-based services and into nursing homes against their will. Justice in Aging shared ways we can end this bias with Provisional Service Plans — fast-tracked Medicaid funding for home care.

Council Highlight: Kansas Council on Developmental Disabilities (KCDD)

The Council and many self-advocates recently met with Rebecca Hines, Ph.D., Commissioner on Disabilities at the Administration for Community Living (ACL). Hines was in Kansas City to discuss long term community living for the medically complex. Attendees were able to share their concerns regarding the waiver waitlist in Kansas, community living options for the medically complex and employment challenges.

NACDD urges opposition to the Restoration of Employment Choice for Adults with Disabilities Act ahead of today's House Committee on Education & Workforce markup. This bill would roll back progress toward competitive, integrated employment by expanding access to subminimum wage and segregated work for younger people with disabilities.

The legislation would lower the Section 14(c) eligibility age from 24 to 18, weakening long-standing workforce protections and undermining Section 511 transition safeguards designed to help young adults with disabilities access fair-wage, inclusive employment opportunities. It also conflicts with ongoing state efforts to phase out sheltered workshops and advance community integration under the Olmstead mandate.

Inclusive employment works. We should strengthen pathways to competitive, fair-wage jobs, not move backward.
