Please note that Community of Hope offices and non-shelter sites will be closed on Friday, June 19th, and Friday, June 20th in observance of Juneteenth.

Juneteenth serves as a time to reflect on the ongoing pursuit of freedom, justice, and opportunity for all. As we honor this day, we recognize the strength, resilience, and contributions of Black communities throughout history and today.

We will resume normal hours on Monday, June 22nd.

We're proud to share that Community of Hope has once again been recognized as a Top Workplace of 2026!

While this recognition is an incredible honor, we know it's our people who make it possible. Every day, our staff bring our Culture Compacts to life through the way they serve our community, support one another, and show up with intention and care.

That's why we're sharing our Culture Champion Spotlight Series as a chance to introduce a few of the incredible individuals who help shape the culture that makes Community of Hope such a special place to work. First up is LaToya Mathews, Director of the Family Success Center. As a Culture Champion, LaToya leads with heart, builds meaningful connections, and creates spaces where both families and staff can thrive.

Join us over the coming weeks as we celebrate the people behind our Top Workplace recognition and their impact.

When Tony was told he was borderline diabetic, he left with more questions than answers.

"I didn't know what to eat," he recalls. "I started panicking every time my A1c levels were high."

Through Community of Hope's diabetes education group, Tony gained something that changed the way he approached his health: understanding. He learned how food, movement, and daily habits affect blood sugar, built confidence in managing his condition, and found support from others on a similar journey.

Today, his blood sugar levels are stable, his symptoms have improved, and he's making healthy choices with confidence.

This , we're celebrating people like Tony who are taking an active role in their health and proving that knowledge can be one of the most powerful tools for change.

For siblings Shawntae and James, better health became a journey they chose to take together.

After facing serious health challenges, including heart surgery, bariatric surgery, and a family history of chronic illness, they joined Community of Hope’s Healthy Lifestyle Group with one goal: to live better.

Through support, accountability, education, and determination, they’ve made lasting changes that have improved their health and their outlook on life.

Their story is a reminder that progress doesn’t happen all at once. Sometimes it starts with one healthier choice, one appointment, one walk, or one step forward.

“The Bellevue Family Success Center is more than a program. It is a lifeline.”

Evelyne’s story is a reminder of what’s possible when families have access to consistent, trusted support. When Evelyne and her family were facing unsafe housing conditions and overwhelming uncertainty, the Bellevue Family Success Center was there, connecting them to resources, support, and a community that helped them move forward.

Stories like hers are why Family Success Centers must be protected. These spaces provide real support for DC families and creating safe places where families can grow and thrive. Now we need your voice.

Call your DC Councilmember TODAY and urge them to protect funding for Family Success Centers. Families across our city are counting on it.
