In this episode, Michael Roscoe, PhD, PA-C, president of the PA Education Association, welcomes Sara Fletcher, PhD, CEO of PAEA, for a conversation about how the association is listening to members and responding to the evolving needs of PA programs. Fletcher shares how PAEA gathers insights through surveys, direct conversations, events and volunteer groups, as well as newer opportunities such as Program Director Virtual Roundtables, role-based virtual retreats, topic-specific listening sessions and regional education meetings. They explore some of the most pressing issues emerging from those conversations, including faculty recruitment and retention, changing learner needs, increased accommodation requests, AI, remediation and success coaching, accessibility requirements and securing clinical sites. The conversation also takes a closer look at accreditation, including member concerns around clarity, consistency, transparency, resource demands and the ability to innovate, and how PAEA’s newly released guiding principles will help shape continued engagement and advocacy on behalf of its members.

PAEA's Government Relations Steering Committee recently met in Washington, DC, to help shape the Association’s advocacy strategy around emerging challenges and opportunities facing PA programs and students.

During the visit, committee members met with representatives from large employers, institutional government relations offices, and state chapters to strengthen strategic partnerships. The event culminated with meetings on Capitol Hill in support of the Professional Student Degree Act and legislation to reauthorize Title VII health workforce development programs.

PAEA’s recent Virtual Advocacy Day amplified these efforts, with 25 programs engaging policymakers in support of the Professional Degree Act and legislation to reauthorize HRSA’s Title VII health workforce development programs through FY 2030.

Together, the in-person and virtual advocacy efforts brought the voice of PA education to policymakers on key legislative priorities.
