You can usually tell when a leader has done the deeper work.

Not by what they start doing. By what they finally stop.

They stop explaining decisions that need no explanation. They stop bracing before every hard conversation. They stop carrying the parts of other people's jobs they were never meant to hold. The over-functioning that used to look like diligence quietly falls away, and what is left is someone who can hold a decision steady without managing the whole room to get there.

It is rarely dramatic. Meetings get shorter. Decisions get cleaner. The energy that used to go into vigilance comes back to the actual work. People feel the steadiness before they can name it.

This is what restoration looks like at a senior level. Not a louder leader. A clearer one. Not more force, but less effort spent fighting a threat that left a long time ago.

The patterns kept you safe once. They served a purpose. They do not have to keep running the operation now.

I am honored to serve on the Board of the Musicians' Enduring Legacy Organization (MELO), an organization dedicated to ensuring that the contributions and legacies of musicians endure for generations to come.

On Tuesday evening, MELO proudly honored the incomparable Harold Jones, celebrating his extraordinary seven-decade career as one of the most accomplished and respected drummers in music history. The event was held at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City, featuring the stunning backdrop of Central Park at Columbus Circle.

Our Master of Ceremonies, Bill Whitaker, set the tone for an unforgettable evening, guiding the celebration with warmth, grace, and professionalism. The program was further elevated by the outstanding leadership's performance and inspiring remarks of MELO's President and Founder, Josephine Beavers, whose passion and dedication continue to advance the organization's mission.

It was a remarkable evening honoring a legendary artist whose impact on music will continue to inspire generations to come.

After serving three consecutive three-year terms myself and a few colleagues were were appointed for life as Emeritae/Emeritri Directors of the University System of Maryland Foundation. The University System of Maryland (USM) Foundation's mission is to promotes, galvanizes, and supports the advancement of public higher education in Maryland through leadership and engagement in philanthropy, asset management, and stewardship. It has been my honor to serve on the foundation board. Thank you Dr. Perman, USM Chancellor for your leadership.
