Minority Association of Pre-medical Students, or MAPS, represents the undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students of SNMA. MAPS members are considered national Associate members and make up about one third of SNMA's membership. Associate members are eligible for most of the SNMA national benefits. This initiative of the Student National Medical Association (SNMA) represents future underrepresent

ed medical students. Associate Members of SNMA attend some of the strongest and most influential undergraduate institutions and constitute a large percentage of our membership body. Our members are active in all fronts; we are creating diversity and making strides in all aspects of medicine and patient care. SNMA has a great interest in increasing the number of physicians of color entering the workforce and know that our pre-medical students are our future colleagues and successors. Through community service and dedication to eliminating ethnic health disparities, we strive to provide ourselves and those around us with a larger sense of being. We stand strong in the light of the many that struggled before us, and are hopeful that we make each step easier for those who come after us. Through our partnership with NMDP, we’re competing with chapters nationwide to increase education, registry sign-ups, and follow-up engagement that directly impacts patients in need of life-saving cell therapy.

Here’s how we earn points:
• Host a 30-minute educational session to spread awareness about NMDP
• Encourage registry participants to respond to follow-up messages to boost response rates

This week, we’re proud to spotlight the exceptional work of the MAPS chapter at Texas A&M University!

The chapter consistently gives back to its community through meaningful service and hands-on involvement. Members volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, helping build homes and supporting the organization through work at the donation center. They also partner with the Brazos Valley Food Bank, where they package meals and work to reduce food insecurity in their local community. Through these efforts, MAPS Texas A&M is turning compassion into action and exemplifying community service.

In addition to their community impact, the chapter continues to invest in student development. They hosted a presentation from Dr. Rhodes, who shared his personal journey to medicine, offering insight into the pathways, challenges, and motivations that shaped his career.

Thank you, Texas A&M University MAPS, for your commitment to hands-on learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and building a supportive community. Your dedication helps shape compassionate future physicians. Your impact is felt far beyond campus.

This week, we are featuring University of Oregon, specifically their biggest event of the year, MedAdvance!

This event was inspired by SNMA’s conferences, where MAPS brought together the Pre-Health clubs at the University of Oregon to put on a medical education event. Within MedAdvance they gave students the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities, speakers, raffle prizes, and the opportunity to network with others! This event was put on to support those who were interested in pursuing a career in medicine tailoring to all levels of medical knowledge!
