Thank you to all who attended our surprise party to celebrate Executive Director Erin Pollitt's 10-year anniversary with DCFNE! From board members, to partners from DC Coalition to End Sexual Violence and Washington Metropolitan Police Dept. Victim Services Branch, to DCFNE staff, we were touched by how many folks came to congratulate our fearless leader.

Special thanks goes to Rach's Cakes for creating a beautiful (and delicious) Taylor Swift themed cake for the occasion.

And of course, the biggest thanks of all to Erin, who's dedication to survivors and nurses makes this whole place shimmer! 💜

Doctors and other medical professionals are often the first people that survivors disclose to after experiencing violence. DCFNE partners with local schools of medicine to ensure their students are ready to support survivors when it matters most.

Recently, DCFNE Forensic Nurse Meeso presented to 2nd-year medical students at Georgetown Medical Center about forensic exams and trauma-informed care.

Thank you to all who helped us create this beautiful tile art during DCFNE’s Partner Appreciation Event in April!

We hung these pieces in our exam room at MedStar Washington Hospital Center with the hope that these words and images would help our patients feel supported and cared for.

It's not every day that our team gets to spend quality time in-person! As on-call nurses, we usually work independently, so when the majority of us were in one place for the 2026 National Sexual Assault Conference last week, we took the opportunity to share a group dinner. We are truly lucky to have such a dedicated and skilled team of forensic nurses!

Did you know that 1 in 6 men have experienced s*xual violence? But myths and stigmas about masculinity can prevent men from getting the care they deserve after s*xual or domestic violence.

That’s why DCFNE presented with MCSR during the 2026 National Sexual Assault Conference. Our Executive Director Erin Pollitt and MCSR’s Executive Director Neil Irvin discussed how service providers can better support male survivors.

By examining the dominant narratives about masculinity, we can lessen the impact of s*xual and domestic violence in Washington, DC and the world at large.

It takes many voices to stand up against s*xual violence, and that’s why events like the National Sexual Assault Conference are so important.

DCFNE’s team members learned from like-minded professionals across many disciplines and grew in our ability to support survivors from all walks of life.

Session topics included s*x abuse in sports, accessibility and inclusion, working with Deaf survivors, and more.

A huge thanks to Respect Together and ValorUS for making this incredible event possible!

As colleges and universities return to class, DCFNE is renewing our commitment to supporting survivors of campus s*xual assault and domestic violence. Recently, we took part in Howard University's Safety Fair, letting students know about the free, confidential forensic exams we provide for survivors of violence.
