Parkinson’s disease has a significant impact on individuals, families, and society. People living with Parkinson's often require caregivers as the disease progresses and hinders their ability to perform daily activities such as dressing, eating, and walking. As the fastest growing and 2nd most common neurodegenerative disease (behind Alzheimer's), the impact of Parkinson's disease is expected to grow significantly. A Parkinson's disease registry is crucial for several reasons: it helps track the prevalence and progression of the disease, informs public health planning, facilitates research, and aids in clinical trial recruitment. By gathering comprehensive data on Parkinson's disease cases, registries can provide valuable insights into the disease's impact on different populations and potentially identify risk factors, ultimately leading to better treatment and care strategies. When Wisconsin passes it's own legislation, we will join 15 other states in collecting health information about people living with Parkinson's in a way that supports patients' privacy and dignity and advances science and healthcare.

It’s Wisconsin Roots Rising, a 24-hour statewide day of giving, and PD Alliance of Wisconsin is all in.

More than 16,000 Wisconsinites are estimated to be living with Parkinson’s disease, but our state has no reliable way to count us. Without a real count, it’s harder to secure the research, funding, and care our community needs. We’re working to change that by building Wisconsin’s first Parkinson’s Disease Registry.

Our goal: $5,000 by midnight tonight.

The Parkinson's Disease Alliance of WI is joining dozens of other community-rooted organizations for the Wisconsin Roots Rising Day of Giving on October 14th. 🌱

Our goal is to raise $5,000 to power our policy advocacy work across Wisconsin. Here is what that makes possible:

🌷 Connecting people living with PD and their care partners to support and resources near them

For 13 years, I was a care partner to my husband, Rick, who lived with Parkinson's. I learned how much it means to be seen, to be connected, and to know you are not walking this road alone. This is what I want for every family in Wisconsin.

Every Wisconsinite living with Parkinson's deserves to be counted. 💙

Right now, Wisconsin has no reliable way to know how many of us are living with Parkinson's disease. Our best estimate is more than 16,000 people, but without a real count, it's harder to secure the research, funding, and care our community needs.

This Wednesday, October 14, PD Alliance of Wisconsin is joining Wisconsin Roots Rising, a statewide day of giving bringing together dozens of grassroots, community-led organizations from across Wisconsin. And you don't have to wait until Wednesday to be part of it.
