Fresh, bright, and ready in minutes! 🥒🫒

This Mediterranean Chickpea Salad is our go-to for busy weeknights, meal prep, or summer gatherings. Protein-packed chickpeas, crisp vegetables, and a zesty homemade dressing come together for a dish that tastes like sunshine in a bowl.

Step 1: In a large bowl, toss chickpeas, cucumber, bell pepper, onion, feta, and olives. Season with salt and black pepper.

Step 2: In a jar with a lid, combine oil, vinegar, parsley, lemon juice, and red pepper flakes. Seal and shake until emulsified. Season with salt and black pepper.

Step 3: Pour dressing over salad and toss to coat just before serving.

That’s it! Save this for your next picnic or lunch prep. 🍋

Did you know that the Summer Solstice is in a month on June 21st? ☀️

Across the Mediterranean, the longest day of the year has been celebrated for centuries:

🇬🇷 In Greece, fires are lit and fortunes told in the smoke
🇮🇹 In Italy, “St. John’s Eve” is celebrated with bonfires and feasts
🇪🇸 In Spain, the “Hogueras de San Juan” brings communities together with fireworks and food

Celebrate with fresh summer produce, a meal outdoors, and gratitude for the sun.

How are you marking the solstice?

One of the most beautiful aspects of the Mediterranean lifestyle? The shared meal. 🍽️

Research shows that families who eat together:

▪️ Have stronger connections
▪️ Make healthier food choices
▪️ Pass down traditions and recipes

In the Mediterranean, meals are unhurried, shared, and celebrated, most importantly, not rushed.

This week, try sitting down with loved ones for one intentional meal. No phones, just food and conversation.

From the shores of Greece to the coasts of Morocco, seafood is central to Mediterranean life. 🐟

Fun facts:
▪️ Sardines are a staple in Portugal and Spain, often grilled over an open flame
▪️ In Italy, “fisherman’s stew” (cioppino) was born from the day’s catch
▪️ Greeks eat more fish per capita than almost any other European country

Simple preparation is key: olive oil, lemon, garlic, and herbs let the fish shine.

This simple tomato salad is about to become your go-to summer side dish! 🍅✨

Juicy sweet tomatoes, creamy feta, crisp red onion, and loads of fresh herbs all tossed in a bright citrus dressing—finished with a sprinkle of tangy sumac for that extra something special. Ready in 10 minutes and absolutely bursting with Mediterranean flavor.

Serve it with crusty bread to soak up every last drop of that herbaceous juice. Trust me, you’ll be making this all season long!

Every year, May 9th is European Union Day, celebrated worldwide with an Open House. The MDR®️ was in Washington, DC this past Saturday!

Thousands of visitors passed through our station throughout the day, discovering and experiencing the richness, diversity, and cultural heritage of Mediterranean ingredients through curated tastings of exceptional extra virgin olive oils and artisanal honeys.

A heartfelt thank you to for her tireless dedication and expertise as Olive Oil Sommelier, and to Marina Marchese () for guiding visitors through the fascinating world of honey!
Special gratitude as well to Fania Yangarber, an invaluable force behind the scenes and an essential part of the MDR®️ team.

We are deeply grateful to the European Union for hosting such an inspiring initiative and for allowing the Mediterranean Diet Roundtable®️ to participate as a proud sponsor in this vibrant celebration of culture, education, dialogue, and culinary diplomacy.

Events like these remind us that food is much more than nourishment: it is history, identity, connection, and a bridge between people and nations.

What a remarkable evening to remember!

On May 7, 2026, the Mediterranean Diet Roundtable®️ had the honor of presenting the inaugural Mediterranean Fest & Awards Ceremony at the World Bank Group in Washington, DC: an extraordinary gathering offering different lenses on food, health, science, policy, culture, and culinary diplomacy.

We were privileged to recognize an exceptional group of MDR®️ awardees whose leadership continues to shape the future of nutrition, research, education, institutional dining, and public health. Their work reminds us that food systems are human systems, and that investing in nutrition is investing in healthier communities, stronger institutions, and more resilient societies.

Our sincere gratitude to the distinguished dignitaries, international representatives, academic leaders, policymakers, chefs, clinicians, industry professionals, and guests who contributed to such an inspiring exchange of ideas and energy.

A very special thank you to the extraordinary culinary team at the World Bank Group, Chef Nick Cavaretta, Midgie Cajayon, and all those who helped create an unforgettable Mediterranean Fest experience through beautifully curated international tasting stations and genuine hospitality.

To everyone who joined us: thank you for believing in the power of dialogue, culture, and collaboration. This is only the beginning...

The MDR® organizes educational trips to different countries. They are designed for trade professionals scouting products while honing their understanding of authentic flavor profiles, quality, and the stories and histories of many territories. We share the letter we received from Jeff, one of the outstanding buyers who recently visited Morocco with a group of 20 colleagues. Jeff captured the essence of what we try to do!

“As I board my plane, reflecting on our time together in Morocco, I keep circling around one simple truth... food sourcing may have been the reason we arrived, but people were the reason the experience mattered.
Across farms, production floors, long drives, shared meals, endless conversations, and countless cups poured with hospitality, I had the privilege of meeting such an incredible group of personalities. Different backgrounds, different perspectives, different roles across the supply chain... yet somehow united by the same heartbeat... a passion for culture, service, and feeding people with purpose.

What made this journey special was not just the opportunity to explore Morocco’s beautiful agriculture, production, and growing potential, but the reminder that this industry is ultimately human. Behind every product are hands, stories, families, traditions, and dreams.
I leave this trip deeply grateful for each of you. Thank you for your conversations, your laughter, your wisdom, your generosity, and your authenticity. In many ways, this experience did not feel like meeting colleagues... it felt like gaining family across different corners of the world.”
