We are a small, family-owned AFC, and opening this home has been an adventure and a sacrifice for all of us, especially our children. But seeing this... this is full circle. This is our reason why.
Our children attended the residents' baseball game this week and brought some of their friends along. The opportunities and experiences we are able to provide for our children and now their friends, are truly priceless. Our children take so much pride in teaching their friends about our community.
Listening to them explain AFOs, mobility differences, and accommodations; watching them introduce their friends to the residents; showing and explaining the different ways our residents communicate; and sharing the joy of our little community—it was an incredibly proud moment for us.
We are so thankful to the families who trust us to care for and support their loved ones. Even more so, we are grateful that all of our families embrace and appreciate the involvement of our children. We have such a special dynamic at CCL.
As parents, there are moments that stop you in your tracks and remind you why every sacrifice has been worth it. Watching our children proudly share this community with their friends was one of those moments. They don't see limitations—they see friendships. They don't focus on differences—they celebrate people. They are growing up in a world where wheelchairs, communication devices, accommodations, and disabilities are not things to fear, question, or avoid. They are simply part of the beautiful diversity of humanity.
What a gift it is to raise children who lead with kindness, acceptance, and understanding. And what an even greater gift it is to watch them pass those values on to others. If we can help create a generation of children who see inclusion as normal, who welcome differences without hesitation, and who recognize the value and dignity in every person, then we know we are building something far bigger than a home, we are helping build a more compassionate world.
Thank you to our sweet friends Katey Paluzzi, Lindsey Abraham Renaud for having such wonderful children!
