From art shows and swimming pools to parades, obedience classes, community events, and everyday outings, these future assistance dogs are collecting experiences that help prepare them for their important futures.

🐾 What happens when a future assistance dog LOVES to retrieve?

A ribbon becomes a bow. A shoe becomes a fashion statement. A T-shirt becomes the latest puppy trend. 😄

Retrieving is more than a game for many of our dogs. It's a skill they'll use one day to help someone live more independently. From picking up dropped items to bringing important objects on command, these tasks start with a natural desire to work and a love of positive interaction.

Our puppy raisers help nurture those instincts through fun, praise, and everyday moments that make learning exciting. Because when training feels like a game, puppies can't wait to play again.

🐾 Training isn’t about perfection. It’s about partnership.

When Cash is asked to retrieve an item by name, sometimes he gets it exactly right… and sometimes he brings back something completely different. 😊

And that’s okay.

Because assistance dogs aren’t robots. They’re learning partners. Every effort matters, every success builds confidence, and every mistake becomes part of the journey. Through patience, encouragement, and positive reinforcement, our trainers help dogs like Cash learn the skills that will one day change someone’s life.

It’s amazing what trust, praise, and a little persistence can accomplish. 💛

Follow along as these incredible dogs continue their journey from learner to life-changer.

🐾 “Left, left.” “Find the door.” “Find my office.”

And just like that… they do.

Guide dogs learn far more than basic obedience. They learn to safely guide, problem solve and respond to directional cues that help create greater independence for their partners.

Before reaching this stage, KSDS guide dogs spend 18 months with volunteer puppy raisers learning foundational skills and experiencing the world around them. Then, they return to KSDS for 120+ hours of professional training, building the advanced skills needed to become trusted guides.

And it all starts with the right foundation - purposeful breeding, careful genetics, and a whole community helping shape future guide dogs.

💙 Follow along to watch these incredible dogs transform from playful puppies into life-changing partners.

📱🐾 “Cash, bring me my phone.”
And just like that… he does.

From a remote to a brush, an envelope to a credit card, service dogs like Cash are trained to recognize and retrieve common household items, helping create greater independence for their partners every day.

At KSDS, our assistance dogs learn upwards of 50 commands and spend more than 120 hours in professional training preparing for life-changing work.

What may look like a simple task is actually something that can make daily life safer, easier, and more independent for someone living with a disability.

💙 Follow along to see how our dogs transform from playful puppies into highly skilled assistance dogs changing lives every day.

🎓🐾 A graduation worth celebrating — and a future full of possibility.

Please join us in congratulating KSDS graduate Madelyn Kipp and her incredible service dog, Mordecai (“Mordi”), on an exciting milestone!

Madelyn recently graduated Cum Laude from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences. And this accomplishment was made even sweeter with Mordi by her side.

This fall, Madelyn will begin the next chapter of her journey at the University of Florida, where she will pursue her Doctorate of Audiology (Au.D.). Together, Madelyn and Mordi will make history as the first service dog team in the university’s audiology program.

In Madelyn’s words:

“Every day I'm so thankful for all that KSDS does and for the blessing that is Mordecai. He truly has helped me both physically and mentally get to this point and I cannot wait to take on the future with him by my side!”

Moments like these are why we do what we do. 💙 From puppy raisers and trainers to donors and supporters - thank you for helping make futures like Madelyn’s possible.

Help us celebrate this incredible team in the comments! 🎉
