For Mary Ann Johnston, it means confidence. Independence. Opportunity. Freedom.

This summer, Mary Ann graduated with Doc, her successor guide dog from KSDS. For the past nine years, her first guide dog, Clutch, helped her navigate the world with greater confidence and independence. Now, Doc is ready to continue that journey.

Born March 2, 2025, these Disney Females litter sisters are growing into confident young dogs thanks to the dedication of their puppy raisers.

🌼 Daisy, raised by Sheila and Shane Johnson, has been enjoying a fun-filled summer meeting new animals, exploring new places, cooling off in the pool, and spending time with her canine friends. She loves to retrieve, loves to learn, and has a way of winning over everyone she meets.

✨ Minnie, raised by Renee Schowengerdt, has been busy practicing real-world skills everywhere from local parks and downtown sidewalks to the K-State Veterinary Health Center, grocery stores, and even the auto service center. Her joyful personality and growing confidence continue to impress everyone she meets.

While these outings may look like fun, and they are... each experience helps prepare future assistance dogs to remain calm, focused, and confident in the many environments they may encounter alongside a future partner.

🎓 Congratulations to Our Newest KSDS Graduates! 🎓

Today we celebrate two remarkable partnerships and the beginning of exciting new journeys toward greater independence.

🐾 Jason Regier of Littleton, Colorado, graduated with Cozumel, his third service dog from KSDS. Cozumel was lovingly raised by Katrina Wright of Oak Park, Illinois.

🐾 Mary Ann Johnston of Richardson, Texas, graduated with Doc, her second KSDS service dog. Doc was raised by Lisa Tokach of Nevis, Minnesota. This team was generously sponsored by Tom Kumke in memory of Joan Till.

Behind every successful team are dedicated puppy raisers, professional trainers, generous supporters, and years of preparation. Today, all of that hard work comes together in two life-changing partnerships.

A trip to the mall may seem simple. For someone with a disability, having a highly trained assistance dog by their side can make all the difference.

Before a dog can confidently work in busy places like shopping centers, stores, restaurants, and community events, they spend years preparing for that moment. From 16-18 months with a volunteer puppy raiser to more than 120 hours of professional training, our dogs learn to stay focused, navigate distractions, and perform tasks that increase independence.

From art shows and swimming pools to parades, obedience classes, community events, and everyday outings, these future assistance dogs are collecting experiences that help prepare them for their important futures.

Born November 9, 2025, the Peter Pan Litter is officially off on their summer adventures. They’ve been busy growing, learning, and exploring the world one experience at a time.

From vet school classrooms to car shows, lakeside trails to graduation celebrations, these six pups are soaking up the experiences that help shape future assistance dogs.

🎓 Ace is a vet-school settling pro with a goofy personality.
🚗 Rufio has been making the rounds at car shows.
🎉 Nana recently tackled her first all-day outing.
🌲 Chief stays busy helping wherever he can.
