💤✈️ PILOTS: Sleep is a safety tool.
Sleep helps your brain and body repair, recover, support immunity, regulate hormones, and maintain focus and reaction time.
Shift work and changing schedules can disrupt your circadian rhythm—and sometimes sleep aids may be needed.
✈️ FAA reminder: Occasional or limited use of sleep aids, such as for circadian rhythm disruption in commercial air operations, is allowable. Daily/nightly use is not allowed, regardless of the reason.
Certain sleep aids also have specific minimum wait times before resuming pilot duties.
⚠️ IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE: Never fly while experiencing drowsiness, impaired alertness, medication side effects, or the effects of inadequate sleep—even if the required waiting period has passed.
💊 Know the medication.
⏱️ Know the required wait time.
🩺 Talk with your AME or physician when appropriate.
✈️ When in doubt, don't fly.
