This morning I had an amazing one hour sauna session at Beem Light Sauna West Bloomfield . I had a chance to relax to some music, get some color therapy, and most importantly, SWEAT.

This is an exciting time for Beem as they are celebrating their official grand opening! I'm sharing the flyer with you all, so if you are in the area, go check them out.

This facility is clean and modern, very inviting, and the staff are so friendly. I can't wait to go back. 🦊❀️

Many birds have a strange behavior called β€œanting,” and scientists have observed it in dozens of species, including crows, jays, starlings, and thrushes. At first glance, it may look unusual or even funny, but researchers believe birds are actually using ants as a natural medicine for their feathers.

There are two different types of anting. In passive anting, birds spread their wings or lie near anthills and allow ants to crawl freely through their feathers. In active anting, birds pick up ants with their beaks and rub them directly onto their plumage.

Scientists discovered that birds do not choose just any ants. They specifically prefer ants from the Formicinae family because these ants produce formic acid when they feel threatened. Formic acid acts like a natural antiseptic and helps kill or drive away harmful mites, lice, fungi, and bacteria hiding deep inside feathers.

Researchers noticed something even more interesting. Birds usually avoid ant species that do not produce formic acid, showing that the behavior is likely intentional and not random.

Some birds have also been seen using other objects with natural antimicrobial chemicals, including cigarette butts, citrus peels, and even millipedes.

Crows are especially known for passive anting. They often sit near anthills and deliberately disturb the ants so the insects spray formic acid onto their feathers.

Scientists believe this behavior helps birds keep their feathers healthy and clean naturally, almost like using a wild version of medicine or insect repellent created by nature itself.
