Gray Lane Yoga Our mission is to guide others toward a life rooted in self-love through the practice of Yoga.

Our classes are intentionally designed to support the full range of human experience - strength and stillness, effort and ease, support and surrender.

I’ve been a little quieter and a little less present around the studio lately, and rather than answering the same questions over and over, I figured I’d just share a little life update here.

It really started around Free Week. I intentionally stepped away from a chunk of my classes to give some of our other instructors the opportunity to teach and be seen. I expected to step back in afterward, but life had some other plans.

During my time off, I injured my back and hip, and I’ve been trying to navigate that while still teaching, running the studio, leading yoga teacher training, homeschooling my kids and doing all the normal life things.

Then my family experienced an incredibly difficult and unexpected loss of my brother in law.

And most recently, I was T-boned in the middle of an intersection by someone who ran a red light. Thankfully, I’m here. But physically and emotionally, it’s been a lot in a relatively short amount of time.

I’m sharing this here mostly because I know people have noticed my absence and because otherwise I find myself answering these questions many times throughout the day. I truly appreciate every person who has checked in, asked how I’m doing, or wondered where I’ve been. I know it comes from a place of care. At the same time, talking about all of it over and over can be a lot, too.

So consider this my little blanket update: I’m here.

I’m taking care of myself. I’m giving myself some room to move through a season I definitely didn’t see coming.

And I’m slowly finding my way back. ā¤ļø

Yoga reaches beyond our studio walls. šŸ’›

Through **The Maitri Initiative of Gray Lane**, we get to share movement, mindfulness, and connection with the kids at the Boys & Girls Club of the Cedar Valley.

Thank you for the shoutout and for welcoming us back into your community for another year! We’re grateful for the chance to help these kids explore ways to feel strong, find calm, and be themselves.

A big thank you to Gray Lane Yoga for providing mindful sessions + yoga with our Club kids! šŸ§˜šŸ’™

We appreciate you taking the time to help our youth slow down, reset, and learn healthy ways to care for their minds and bodies. We’re so grateful for this partnership!

It’s probably obvious that I’ve canceled more classes lately than I ever have before. I haven’t wanted to make a big deal about it, but unfortunately, it has become a big deal.

About a month ago, I injured my hip. I thought it might go away on its own, so I kept going. After several weeks of trying different things without much improvement, I finally went to the doctor for answers.

I start physical therapy tomorrow.

I absolutely hate canceling classes. I feel guilty every time. But I’m eating my own words right now: it’s time for me to listen to my body.

It’s funny…I spend so much time teaching people how to be present in their bodies, and sometimes I forget to exist within my own.

Thank you for being so flexible and understanding through the cancellations. I know your time matters, too. I’m hoping physical therapy will help me find a way forward, and in the meantime, I’m going to practice what I teach.

I’ll see you in the studio, teaching off mat rather than on.

**Tonight’s 5:30 class is canceled.**

For the past few weeks, I’ve been teaching more off the mat while dealing with a hip injury, and ā€œlisten to your bodyā€ has become a pretty fitting theme in class. Well, my hip took a turn for the worse today, and I ended up at the hospital this afternoon. I’m still waiting on tests, so I won’t make it back in time to teach.

I tried to find someone to cover, but with such short notice, no one was available. I’m sorry for the last-minute change.

I’m glad I listened to my own advice this week, even if I didn’t expect the lesson to land quite like this. šŸ’š

Why does our schedule change?

We do our best to build a schedule that honors both our students and our instructors. Sometimes that means changing it.

Some teachers have been with Gray Lane for years, and their availability shifts with the seasons of their lives. Others teach with us for a while before moving on. We know it can be disappointing when a class you love changes.

Our instructors are real people. We teach best when a class fits our lives and reflects what we’re excited to share.

This year, I stepped away from teaching Restorative Yoga for the first time in eight years. That felt uncomfortable. But I passed the class to Cherie, who has so much passion for it, and hardly a week goes by without someone telling me how much they love her class.

It was a hard change to make, and exactly the right one.

ļæ¼Andrea and Emily made a drastic shift in the way our kids acro aerial programming is delivered and their time slots. I had multiple breakdowns during this process. Changing things on the back end proved to be more difficult than I could have ever thought. I dropped the ball for months during this transition. Andrea received MANY teary eyed, barely audible Snapchats.

The joyful Snapchats I received from Andrea after night one of classes made every tear worth it.

It was an uncomfortable change to make, but exactly the right one.

Every step we’ve taken has been a step that’s inevitably headed us in the right direction including some steps that showed us which paths we shouldn’t take. That’s a part of the journey too.&

Thank you to EVERYONE for joining us in the journey even if it is just for a season. šŸ šŸ‚
