Enhance Black Women’s Health I help women with autoimmune conditions figure out what’s actually triggering their symptoms so they can feel like themselves again, without extreme diets

Enhance Black Women's Health Community is a platform for health advocates and caregivers who want to learn practical, culturally relevant strategies for nutrition, movement, and mental well-being to feel more informed and ready to close the gaps in care that Black women face.

Black women deserve to be believed by their doctors, nurses, dietitians, coaches, and trainers.

We shouldn't have to 'prove' anything for our health concerns to be taken with care.

In medical settings, the sad reality is our health concerns aren't always taken seriously.

We hear the stories on the news.

We might even watch the videos on TikTok.

But awareness isn't the same thing as taking action.

And, for me, that stops today.

So, I will be bolder with my advocacy.

Because it's easy to be on the sideline saying I care about this issue.

It's a lot harder to get into the race and put action behind my words.

That's what I'll be focusing on in the second half of the year. What will be your focus?

You’re not alone if you’re overwhelmed by all the conflicting health advice.

Your doctor is telling you to lose weight.

Your favorite wellness influencer says cut carbs.

And, your bestie is convinced she has the magic pill to cure every ill.

It's enough to drive you bonkers.

It can also lead you to blame yourself for not being able to just figure this out.

The unpopular truth is navigating conflicting health advice when you're managing autoimmune disease or a chronic illness isn't easy.

That’s why this week I'm sharing how finding the deeper why behind your health goals makes it easier to know which health advice to listen to and which to ignore.

At some point, I stopped trusting my body and started managing her like a project.

I thought it was my body I wanted to control.

In actuality, it was what others thought of me.

That mindset kept me trying to fix a body that wasn't even broken in the first place.

However, when I started trying to understand what my body needed, all my body's *issues* went away.

That’s why I teach women how to understand their symptoms and patterns instead of constantly fighting with their bodies.

Do you find yourself wanting to control or understand your body?

If everything is changing, how do you know what caused what?

As a social scientist by training, I'm reminded that when you have TOO MANY variables, it’s harder to identify the cause of your autoimmune symptoms.

Was my joint pain caused by...
The wine?
The workout?
Or, the mattress?

Until you start tracking the patterns, you won't know with certainty what is causing the problem.

Instead, you're simply guessing what the probable cause might be.

That’s why I take what I learned years ago during graduate school and apply it to the work that I do with clients today.

When we focus on assessing one variable (i.e., food, movement, environment), we can get to the root of what’s ACTUALLY contributing to your flare-ups.

So, you’re no longer guessing. You’re making informed decisions based on the data you actually have.

Drop a 👍🏽 if you’ve taken what you learned in school and applied it to other areas of your life.

You don’t need more consistency. You need a better design.

The problem is that we often follow plans that:

➡️ Are built entirely around restriction, but ignore what you need to include.
➡️ Focus on the symptoms, but ignore what is actually causing them.
➡️ Promise you a certain body, but neglect to mention everything you gotta do to obtain it.

No judgment, as I've followed plans in the past. While they worked in the beginning, they never worked long-term.

That's why inside my coaching, we focus on identifying what actually works for YOUR body so you can stop following plans that were never designed with you in mind.

Save this post for when you need a reminder that it's not YOU, it's the PLAN.

Nothing humbles you like ordering salad… because it’s the only thing without eggs. 🍳

I used to love brunch, but now it’s my 'LEAST’ favorite meal.

Being a foodie with a “new-ish” egg sensitivity has made breakfast time really interesting.

While I have no desire to fear food, ‘a little won’t hurt you’ is a risk I’m unwilling to take.

How do you handle dining out with food sensitivities?

Are you a may the odds be ever in your favor, or do you stick to a few trusted allergen-friendly places?

Autoimmune disease can leave you feeling your body is “broken,” or “working against you.” Neither is true.

For many of us navigating autoimmune disease and chronic illness, it's easy to experience a lot of emotions, especially when it comes to food.

That's why I want to share an oldie, but goodie conversation I had with Eileen Lard on the "Phoenix Helix" podcast about emotional eating and autoimmune disease.

Agree or disagree: You can absolutely track autoimmune symptoms without becoming obsessive.

During my disordered eating days, I would have said 'absolutely NOT,' but almost a decade later, my opinion has changed.

There’s a huge difference between:

✅ Paying attention to patterns, and

❌ Hyper-fixating on every little thing your body does.

Knowing yourself and where you're at on your journey makes all the difference.

✅ If gathering data helps you feel MORE empowered, then it absolutely makes sense to track your symptoms.

❌ However, if tracking your symptoms leaves you feeling more anxious, then you know this isn't the right approach for you.

What say you... agree 👍🏽 or disagree 👎🏽?

‘Starting over' isn't proof that you're undisciplined.

But it might be evidence that the wellness advice you've been given wasn't designed with your unique situation in mind.

🙋🏽‍♀️ Raise your hand if you've been stuck in survival mode for YEARS trying to follow health plans that ignore:

✔️ Your chronic illness leaves you so fatigued that getting out of bed is a struggle.

✔️ You are so stressed out that you're ready to run away and start a whole new life.

✔️ You struggle with accessible ways to manage your symptoms that don't require a life overhaul.

When the plan doesn't work ... we throw the plan away, not you!

And, replace it with a truly sustainable strategy that recognizes your health condition, lifestyle, and barriers.

Drop a 🙃 if you agree you don't need a complete life reset, but a health plan that is actually made for you.

It's not your fault that you're struggling with an autoimmune flare-up.

I know that it's tempting to blame yourself whenever your symptoms come back with a vengeance.

Instead of boarding the "Blame Train," what you can do that's far more productive is investigate the reason behind your symptoms.

➡️ If you're feeling tired all the time, it's not because you're lazy. Likely, you're not pacing yourself. which results in you having so much energy at the beginning of the day to get everything done. By the end of the day, you're burnt out.

➡️ If you're experiencing more symptoms, it's not because you're doing something wrong. Symptoms provide us with data that we can use to assess the potential triggers of our symptoms. Until we assess the data, we're just guessing what's causing the symptoms.

➡️ If you've ever believed your body size is the problem, it's not. We have been conditioned to believe that our bodies are the problem. In reality, biomedical research simply hasn't made studying women a priority, so it blames us for our health problems.

When you approach your health with curiosity instead of shame, you can focus more on identifying patterns and triggers so you can find real relief from your autoimmune symptoms.

Save this post for the next time you need the reminder, you aren't to blame for your autoimmune symptoms.
