There's still time to participate in NYSILC’s 2026 Statewide Needs Survey!

The New York State Independent Living Council (NYSILC) is a statewide organization that develops a plan for centers for independent living (CILs) to serve people with disabilities in New York State. We invite you to participate in this year’s consumer needs survey until August 15th, 2026. Your answers will help us make sure that your needs are included in the upcoming statewide plan. Our goal is to make sure that all people with disabilities can fully be part of their communities and receive the services they need. Your opinions matter!

We stand with New York Association on Independent Living and our fellow centers for independent living to keep people holding public office or running for public office accountable to all constituents. This is not an issue of Democrats versus Republicans.

A local organization that supports people with disabilities says New York state did not allow enough time for public comment before its Medical Aid in Dying law took effect.

The Olmstead decision empowered people with disabilities to live independently in their communities. A recent memo from the Department of Justice is now challenging that law. This should matter to ALL OF US! Find out what's at stake by watching this excellent news interview of Brian O'Malley from Center for Disability Rights on Spectrum News.

The Supreme Court in 1999 held that people with disabilities have a qualified right to receive state funded supports and services in the community rather than in institutions in many cases.
