Inflammation is one of the most common things we see in clinic — and one of the most misunderstood.

At its core, inflammation is the body’s natural immune response to stress, injury, infection, or imbalance. In the short term, it can be protective and helpful. But when the body remains in a constant state of stress or immune activation for months or years, inflammation can become chronic — and begin affecting how you feel every single day.

And here’s the important part: chronic inflammation is rarely caused by just one thing.

It is often the result of many different stressors accumulating over time:
• chronic stress
• environmental exposures
• processed foods + poor nutrition
• blood sugar dysregulation + insulin resistance
• sleep deprivation
• gut dysfunction
• hormone changes
• postpartum depletion
• perimenopause + menopause
• pregnancy
• genetics
• lifestyle factors

Think of inflammation like a bucket. Over time, stressors slowly fill that bucket until the body eventually starts signaling that it’s overwhelmed.

This can look like:
• fatigue
• brain fog
• bloating
• puffiness
• anxiety or feeling overstimulated
• joint pain
• headaches
• stubborn weight gain
• hormone symptoms
• just feeling “off”

And if left unaddressed long term, chronic inflammation can contribute to more serious health concerns including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, metabolic dysfunction, autoimmune conditions, and even increased cancer risk.

This is why we believe inflammation deserves a root-cause approach — not just a temporary bandaid.

Our providers are skilled in helping women identify what is driving inflammation in their body and creating personalized plans to help reduce it and support healing through nutrition, lifestyle support, hormone optimization, metabolic health, gut health, supplementation, and medical therapies when appropriate.

For so long, I thought the answer was always more cardio, lighter weights, and pushing harder.

And honestly… that used to work for me.

But after babies, postpartum hormone shifts, stress, and entering my mid-30s, my body responded completely differently. The endless cardio and tiny weights weren’t giving me the results I wanted anymore — and in many ways, I think they were working against me.

Over the last year and a half, I’ve shifted my focus toward:
• Strength training 3–4x/week
• Picking up heavier weights
• Prioritizing muscle over “burning calories”
• Supporting recovery and hormones
• Being strategic instead of just doing more

And the difference in my energy, body composition, metabolism, and overall health has been incredible.

I recently listened to a Harvard lecture and an amazing Diary of a CEO podcast that confirmed what we’re continuing to learn about women’s health: as we age, especially postpartum and in perimenopause, our bodies need a different approach.

More is not always better.
Smarter is better.

Action item for this week:
Instead of adding another long cardio session, try adding 2–3 days of intentional strength training. Focus on progressive overload, adequate protein, and recovery — and give your body time to respond. 🤍

This is definitely not philosophically deep or insanely brilliant 😂 just some practical things I’ve learned in this season of motherhood + being a working mom.

One of the biggest lessons for me has been this:
You can do both well… but you can’t do it all at once.

When I’m at work, I’m at work. I try to be fully present there, serve people well, and set boundaries around it. But when my feet hit the back door, I want to be HOME. ❤️

My babies are 4 and 2, and I’ve learned really quickly that trying to juggle work while they’re home usually leaves all of us frustrated 😅 So if I absolutely have to pull work back out, I try to wait until they’re asleep so I can maximize my time with them while they’re little.

I also think it’s good for our children to see us work hard at the things God has called us to. Work is not bad. Serving others is not wrong. Being passionate about your calling is a gift.

But at the end of the day, I want my kids to know:
they are deeply loved, prioritized, and wanted by me.

I’m called to motherhood AND I’m called to the work God has given me. And honestly… I’m grateful I get to do both. 🥹🥰
