This patient came to Viságe Facial Plastic Surgery looking to address both functional breathing concerns and cosmetic goals with rhinoplasty.

His nose appeared overly narrow from the front, contributing to nasal valve collapse and breathing difficulty. During surgery, the nasal valve region was carefully expanded to improve airflow, while the bridge and nasal tip were refined to create better facial balance and definition.

A key priority throughout the procedure was maintaining a strong, natural, masculine appearance while improving both form and function.

“I had a rhinoplasty 3 weeks ago and my nose is still very swollen. How long is it normal to have rhinoplasty swelling after surgery?”

Dr. Patel's Answer:

"Time heals! The degree and persistence of swelling often depends on how much was done and whether you have had previous nose surgery. To still be swollen at three weeks is typical for any procedure on the nose. About 90% of swelling subsides at 6 weeks for a first-time rhinoplasty and 3 months for a secondary rhinoplasty.

Here are a few things you can do to reduce swelling:

▶ Keep the salt content of your diet at reasonable levels.
▶ Keep you head elevated at all times above the level of your heart.
▶ Use cold compresses (ice packs wrapped in a wash cloth for 20 minutes every two hours while awake) for any acute swelling.
▶ Do not strain or engage in strenuous activity. When your heart rate elevates, more blood is pumped into the face/nose, and that causes more persistent swelling.
▶ Remember that healing progresses with time."

Does revision rhinoplasty cost more than a primary rhinoplasty?

Anything that adds to a more complex procedure will result in a higher price. In general, revision rhinoplasty tends to be more expensive than primary rhinoplasty as it is a more involved procedure due to scarring and alterations in structure from the previous surgery.
