We're re-posting the below email from Parent to Parent of Wisconsin who wants to be able to support more families whose kids have an Autism diagnosis. If you think you have the capacity to support another parent, register for one of their support parent trainings.
Dear Wisconsin Families:
We are reaching out with an urgent need for volunteer Support Parents who have experience parenting a child with an autism diagnosis.
At Parent to Parent of Wisconsin, we connect parents and caregivers seeking support with trained volunteer Support Parents who have walked a similar journey. Right now, we have several families waiting to be matched with someone who understands the challenges, questions, and successes that come with raising a child on the autism spectrum. This year we have seen an increase in requests for support and some of our trained Support Parents are on a personal pause from supporting so this creates a need for additional trained Support Parents in our Parent to Parent network.
If you are a parent or caregiver of a child with autism and are willing to share your experiences, encouragement, and understanding with another family, we would love to hear from you. A simple conversation can provide hope, reassurance, and valuable support to a parent who may be feeling overwhelmed or isolated.
As a Support Parent, you will:
β’ Offer emotional support and encouragement.
β’ Share your personal experiences and resources.
β’ Help families feel connected and understood.
β’ Make a meaningful difference in another family's journey.
β’ Help families expand their community and support system.
Many Support Parents have found that sharing their experiences with other parents creates a mutually beneficial and enriching connection.
Our need is immediate and your willingness to volunteer could help reduce the wait time for families who are currently seeking support.
If you are interested in becoming a Support Parent or would like more information about the role and training process, please contact us or attend one of our Support Parent trainings . We have two trainings coming up on August 15th and 18th. If neither of those dates work for you, we have more scheduled throughout the year.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to give back and support another family. Your experience and compassion can make a lasting impact.
Sincerely,
Parent to Parent of Wisconsin π©·
