Does it feel like everything is turning into a battle with your child lately? While some conflict is a normal part of growing up, there are times when it may signal something more.

Andrea Ruiz, therapist at Bryan Counseling Center, explains how increasing independence can naturally create parent-child conflict, when behaviors become more concerning and strategies parents can use to improve communication.

If conflict is becoming a daily struggle at home, a counselor can help identify underlying concerns and provide tools to strengthen family communication. Learn more: https://lnk.bryan.org/4hVEY3Y

Congratulations to Lacey Groff, PCT, for receiving the August Tulip Award!

Lacey received nine different nominations! Here is what a few people had to say about Lacey:

"Excellent care. She was extremely nice, helpful and kind. She was an angel of my heart. She could understand me better than others."

"Today I needed to shower, and 2 nurses really went above and beyond to help. They had to assist me on the lift. Lacey went to get the tube extension, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, towels and washcloths. They did everything to make it happen. Then they changed my sheets and got me a new gown and dried me off. I appreciated all they did."

"Lacey was the best care tech in the hospital. And all of the tasks did a good job, but Lacey was very open and attentive when I was tired and worried, I could take her home with me."

"Lacey was very helpful and caring. She took the time to find all the answers to my questions and concerns. She takes her job seriously and always made sure I had what I needed."

Lacey, thank you for the care you provide daily to your patients. You make a difference in the lives of others. We are grateful that you are part of the Bryan Medical Staff.

The five members of the first Bryan Career Accelerator Program cohort were nervous when they first met each other in January. They were about to start a whirlwind adventure together, being challenged and tested every single day as they trained to be surgical technologists. They didn't know that they were also about to become close friends.

Congratulations to Sara Hanes, Nurse Manager, on receiving the Daisy Nurse Leader Award.

Here is what a team member had to say about Sara in their nomination:

"Sara leads with compassion, humility and unwavering support for both patients and staff. She has created a culture where teamwork is second nature, and everyone feels valued, respected and empowered to succeed. No task is ever beneath her. Whether it's answering call lights, helping with patient care, cleaning a room or stepping in wherever she's needed, she consistently leads by example and reminds us that great leaders work alongside their teams.

With so much information about childhood vaccines available today, many parents are uncertain or have questions about the childhood immunization schedule and how it is developed.

In this video, Dr. Alicia Cruce explains why vaccines are recommended at specific ages, how the schedule is designed to protect children when they need it most and why pediatricians continue to recommend it.

An important thing for parents or guardians to remember is that questions about vaccines are not only welcome, but they're important. We encourage you to talk with your child's healthcare provider to learn more and discuss what is right for your child and your family.

Congratulations to Matt Hayes, PCT, for receiving the September Tulip Award!

Here is what a few patients had to say about Matt:
"Matt really showed he cared and made me feel like less of a burden. He was so sweet and caring. I just know he is in the right profession. We need more people like him."

"Matt was so kind and comforting when he had to help me change my soiled underpants. He treated me with dignity and professionalism when doing that and also when he had to replace and reattach heart monitor leads. He kept reassuring me it was all okay. When I was embarrassed and felt like a burden, he would chat with me, comfort me and is the definition of someone I would trust Matt to take care of a loved one."

"Matt was very attentive and respectful, especially about how I identify. He was also the first male staff I genuinely felt safe around. I also appreciate that he treated me like a person."

Matt, thank you for the care you provide daily to your patients. You make a difference in the lives of others. We are grateful that you are part of the Bryan Medical Staff.
