What does your healthcare provider do on the weekends? 👀

This past weekend, I had the honor of a lifetime getting to speak and teach at a chiropractic college out in California!

We talked all things business, communication and chiropractic.

When I was in school, I was always so grateful for the docs who would come back and pour into us. Sometimes hearing it from someone who was actually out there doing it was exactly what made things finally click.

Pretty sweet to realize that this weekend, I was one of those docs.

Grateful for the opportunity to give back to a profession that has given me so much. I couldn't have done it without those who did the same for me when I was a student.🤝

10.5 miles.

Two miles into the run I made a game time decision to see if I could finish my first ever half marathon. I didn't quite make it but I ran until my body physically wouldn't let me take another step. (If you saw me laying by my car for an hour afterwards, no you didn't)

Needless to say... I'm feeling it today. 😅

It got me thinking.

What are your healthcare providers doing to take care of their own health?

Would you trust a mechanic who never works on their own car? A personal trainer who never exercises? A financial advisor who can't manage their own finances?

It feels a little backwards, doesn't it?

Healthcare providers should constantly be investing in their own health. Testing themselves. Learning. Growing. Healing. They don't have to be perfect, but the more experience they have first hand, the more they can confidently guide others through their own health journey.

Every workout, every recovery session, every healthy meal, every challenge and every setback teaches me something I can bring back to my patients.

I don't just want to tell people what's possible.

I want to live it first.

One of the questions I get asked most often is what I do outside of the office.

One of the greatest privileges in my life is helping lead a men's retreat alongside six of my best friends. Every year we have the opportunity to serve 75 to 100 men with one mission in mind: helping them become better husbands, fathers and community leaders.

What people see over one weekend is the result of a year's worth of prayer, work and intentionality. We pour everything we have into creating an experience that challenges men, builds authentic brotherhood and calls them to a higher standard.

The stories make it all worth it. Marriages restored. Addictions broken. Mindsets transformed. Men stepping into the lives they were created to live.

This weekend the seven of us gathered at Lake Tahoe to cast vision for the next 5 to 10 years, plan for this year's retreat and invest in our own growth so we can better serve the men who trust us with their journey.

Leading and discipling men is one of my greatest passions. I'm incredibly grateful to walk that road alongside these six men.

Now it's time to bring that same energy, purpose and intentionality back into the office.

If you’ve ever been in my office, you’ve probably seen this picture.

This is Colton.

My partner through chiropractic school. Woody and Buzz. We learned together, taught together and grew together.

I truly wouldn’t be the chiropractor I am today without him. I wouldn’t be the man I am today without him. I wouldn’t be the man of God I strive to be without his brotherhood, encouragement and example.

As I closed the chapter on my very first office space, it only felt right that the final adjustment ever given in that space was him adjusting me. After pouring my heart into serving this community there, what a gift it was to be the one receiving care for the very last adjustment in that office from one of my favorite people.

Then came the first adjustments in our new home.

Donovon and Rosie.

Two people who have believed in Deeply Rooted Chiropractic from the beginning. Two people who have constantly encouraged me, supported me and reminded me why I love what I do.

Looking back, I couldn’t have written a better ending to one chapter or a better beginning to the next.

Here’s to new beginnings, lifelong friendships and continuing to serve this incredible community. 🌱
