Is there someone in your life who has been touched by dementia? A parent. A neighbor. A best friend's mom. Someone you miss every single day. Someone you cared for.

You can honor them in the sweetest way โ€” by adopting a duck! ๐Ÿฆ† Yes, a duck. A real (okay, not real) duck that is about to become very important to you.

Local organizations have come together to raise money for The Longest Day (the Alzheimer's Association's signature summer fundraiser) and have chosen Dementia Friendly Montgomery County as their beneficiary!

Every duck adopted for $100 goes directly toward our work building a more compassionate, connected community for people living with dementia and the families who love them.

You can name your duck after someone special. You can adopt one in memory. You can adopt one in celebration. You can name it Gerald. We don't judge. ๐Ÿฆ†

๐Ÿ‘‰ Email us directly at [email protected] to adopt a duck! We'd love to hear who you're honoring. And yes, we definitely want to know your duck's name.

Plus, there's a beach bash on June 18th. Every duck makes a splash!

๐Ÿ’ซ The momentum is real, and we are just getting started! ๐Ÿ’ซ

Last week, Dementia Friendly Montgomery County held our Community Action Team meeting, and we left inspired, energized, and more motivated than ever!

The new ideas, the offers of support, and the collaborative spirit are exactly how we change the experience of dementia in Montgomery County from isolation to connection.

The last few months have been full of exciting milestones, and what is coming up is even bigger. None of it happens without help from our community!

A huge thank you to Beacon Bridge Wealth Partners and Megan Scott for hosting us, providing refreshments, printing materials, and generously offering to sponsor door prizes for upcoming community events. Your support means everything to a volunteer-driven organization like ours.

Want to be added to our mailing list for future meetings, events, and collaborative opportunities? Email us at [email protected]

And we would love to hear from you in the comments! What ideas, resources, or connections can you bring to our community?

๐Ÿ’œ Will you help spread the word? We all know someone who could benefit from this.

Our Connections Memory Cafรฉ is this Friday at 11 AM at the William Jeanes Memorial Library in Lafayette Hill.

This is a warm, welcoming space for people living with dementia or memory changes, and their care partners to come together, enjoy activities, share conversation, and be in community.

Care partners attend alongside their loved onesโ€”this is a shared space for both of you. ๐Ÿ’›

๐Ÿ‘‰ Please share this post so more families know this support exists.

๐ŸŽจ How can art transform the lives of people with dementia? ๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ

Dementia Friendly Montgomery County community leads Danielle Ramirez and Lori A Rizzo attended a moving event at Brightview Senior Living in Devon, where Susan Shifrin of Artz Philadelphia gave a powerful talk on how art and creativity bring light, connection, and dignity to the lives of people living with dementia and their care partners.

Even as memory changes, the ability to connect, express, and experience joy remains. Programs like this highlight that people living with dementia retain meaning, creativity, and connection.

๐Ÿ’œ Itโ€™s a powerful reminder to see the person, not just the diagnosis.

Weโ€™re deeply grateful to Megan Zachmeier from Brightview Senior Living for bringing this event together and inviting us to take part in such a meaningful experience!

If youโ€™re not familiar with ARTZ Philadelphia, I encourage you to discover their incredible work and consider supporting their mission!

Caregiving can feel like a thousand questions with no clear map. We recommend this upcoming five-week online Care Partner Support Series from Teepa Snow's Positive Approach to Care for practical guidance, encouragement, and connection with others who understand the road. It begins May 4 and includes five 90-minute Zoom sessions for care partners and families.
