Winter can feel heavier for many of us, especially in the autistic community. Seasonal depression is real, and it's okay to struggle with shorter days and colder weather.
Here are some ways to cope that actually work:
🌟 Light therapy: Get outside during daylight hours or use a light therapy lamp. Even 20-30 minutes helps regulate mood and sleep.
🌟 Sensory support: Create cozy sensory spaces with soft textures, calming colors, and familiar sounds. Autistic folks often thrive in intentional sensory environments.
🌟 Routine & structure: Winter disrupts schedules. Stick to consistent sleep, meal, and activity times to ground yourself.
🌟 Movement matters: Even gentle walks, stretching, or dancing to favorite music releases endorphins and lifts mood.
🌟 Connection: Reach out to people who get you. Whether it's family, friends, or community, you don't have to do this alone.
🌟 Professional support: If winter depression feels overwhelming, talk to a therapist or counselor. There's no shame in asking for help.
You are stronger than you think. Winter doesn't last forever, and neither does this feeling.
We're here for you. 💙
