Today we're sharing highlights from our Community Life Department's annual fishing trip to Gull Lake in Brainerd.

Erin and Robert, who live at our Norway home, were among the many people we support who spent the day casting lines, enjoying the beautiful surroundings, and making lasting memories alongside their Program Manager, Elly.

It's always a great day when time outdoors, good company, and a little Minnesota fishing come together!

Today, we celebrate an extraordinary leader as John Estrem officially retires after 14 years as CEO of Hammer & NER.

John's leadership helped guide our organization through a period of tremendous growth, including the merger with Northeast Residence, while never losing sight of what matters most: the people we support. He has been a tireless advocate for people with disabilities, our employees, and our community, leading with compassion, integrity, and a genuine belief that every person deserves the opportunity to live a full and meaningful life.

His vision has helped shape who we are today, and his legacy will continue to inspire our work for years to come.

Thank you, John, for your unwavering dedication, your steady leadership, and the countless lives you've touched along the way. We wish you all the best in this next chapter and a retirement filled with joy, adventure, and well-deserved relaxation.

Today we're proud to recognize Cate Saracen Peters on her 45th anniversary with Hammer & NER!

Cate began her journey with us in the 1980s as a Direct Support Professional, and over the past four and a half decades, her passion for supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities has touched countless lives.

Throughout her career, Cate has helped shape Hammer & NER in many different roles—from providing direct support, to leading training and education initiatives, to developing future leaders, and today serving as our Employee Success Coach. In every position, she has championed learning, collaboration, and the belief that when our employees are supported, the people we serve benefit too.

Her leadership, kindness, and unwavering commitment have left a lasting impact on our organization and on generations of employees. We are incredibly grateful for everything Cate has given to Hammer & NER over the past 45 years.

Stephanie from our Rockford home recently had the chance to attend a live taping of Twin Cities Live at Mystic Lake Casino—a special experience for someone who watches the show every weekday afternoon.

After the taping, Stephanie enjoyed meeting the cast and taking photos with them, including her favorite co-host, former Minnesota Viking Ben Leber. She and Rockford Program Manager Sara Husfeldt also had fun watching the episode again when it aired on television.

🌱🌼 Summer is growing at our County Road F home!

The women who live at Hammer & NER's County Road F home welcomed the season by planting vegetables and colorful flowers together. From choosing what to grow to getting their hands in the soil, everyone played a part in creating a garden they'll enjoy all summer long.
