Texas is a CPOM state. Corporate practice of medicine.

Short version: who gets to own the medical side of a practice is restricted here, so clinics like mine run through an MSO/MSA with a physician-owned entity.

A nurse in Arizona doesn’t have to set it up that way. Arizona isn’t a CPOM state.

So when I’m scrolling the nurse business groups and somebody asks “what do I need to open an IV clinic?” I already know what’s coming.

Forty comments. Get an LLC. Get a medical director. Get insurance. My cousin did it in a weekend.

And not one person asks her what state she’s in.

That’s the first thing we ask every nurse who calls us, before we talk about anything else.’

The answer changes what she can own, how her medical director agreement gets written, and what has to be in place before she touches a patient.

I’m not knocking the groups. Nurses helping nurses is a good thing.

But “it worked for me” from a nurse in Scottsdale is not a compliance plan for a nurse in Fort Worth.

𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗻𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻'𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆'𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝘆𝘁𝗵𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲.

I talk to nurses every week who've wanted to launch an IV business for a year or more.

They're not lazy. They're not scared of work. They've read everything.

That's the problem.

One Facebook group says one thing. A course says another. A nurse two states over swears by something that would never fly where you live.

So you freeze. Because the downside is your license.

Here are five things I hear constantly that are keeping good nurses on the sidelines:

𝟭. "You have to be an NP to own an IV business."

𝟮. "A medical director is a signature you rent."

𝟯. "If you're in a CPOM state like Texas or California, a nurse can't own anything."

𝟰. "Mobile IV is the easy way around the rules."

𝟱. "If it's working for the nurse in my Facebook group, it'll work in my state."

Every one of those is wrong, half right, or right in one state and wrong in the next.

And this isn’t for nurses who are still thinking about starting a business.

This is for the nurse who already started one… but isn’t making the money she thought she would.

You got the business open.

You have the medical director.
The protocols.
The EMR.
The website.

But then reality hits…
