The heartbeat of Texas Hands & Voices is the one-on-one support we offer through our Guide By Your Side program. Families are matched for FREE with Guides who are also parents of children who are deaf/hard of hearing and adults who are DHH. Through these connections, families gain insights, share joys and challenges, and connect with resources that support them on their journey.

Finding connection and community is critical to the overall success of all children.
90% of children who are deaf/hard of hearing are born to typically hearing parents and finding community with shared lived experiences can be challenging. Build your community with Guide By Your Side!

Visit https://zurl.co/RdQQm for more information and the link to enroll.

Even if you had a Parent Guide in the past, you may sign up again. From birth to 21, life brings many transitions, and we can't wait to connect with you!

Today is National Interpreter Appreciation Day! Today is a special day to acknowledge the tireless efforts of Sign Language Interpreters who work relentlessly to bridge the communication gap between the Deaf and hearing communities. Share this with all the amazing Sign Language Interpreters you know! Without their love, dedication, and advocacy, our Deaf community would not have the accommodations they rightfully deserve and need to become successful members of society. From facilitating communication in educational settings to ensuring equal access in sports, healthcare, employment, and social services, interpreters play a vital role in breaking down barriers and promoting inclusivity. They are the unsung heroes who work behind the scenes to empower Deaf individuals to reach their full potential. So let's take a moment to express our gratitude and appreciation for all that they do!

ARRRRRD Matey sailing by to say - Therrrre's an app for that!

Parents can advocate for their kid's education at ARD/IEP meetings - this app can show you how.

Several organizations created the Parent Advocacy app regarding education of students who are deaf or hard of hearing (DHH) in K-12 settings.
'The Parent Advocacy app is a collaboration between the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center at Gallaudet University, the American Society for Deaf Children, Hands & Voices, and the National Association of the Deaf.'

"Families of DHH children attend meetings—Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, 504 meetings, and other types of meetings. What are these meetings about? How can you be the best advocate for your child? The Parent Advocacy app helps you to understand your child’s rights and to prepare you to work with the school in the best interest of your child."

Yo ho ho - Let's set sail on the journey together!

(Note for those outside Texas - IEP meetings here are called ARD or IEP meetings interchangeably)
