FIRST RESPONDER RECOVERY CARE 🔥💗

Our local wildfire is still very much an active crisis. At only around 30% containment, first responders are continuing to work long, physically demanding hours protecting people, homes, animals, land, and our surrounding neighbors + communities. Right now, their focus is where it needs to be: on the fire.

The toll of this kind of response builds quickly. Extreme heat, heavy gear, repetitive physical work, disrupted sleep, long shifts, very little opportunity for recovery, and the emotional weight of what they are experiencing can stay with them well beyond the immediate emergency.

We want to help with what comes after.

• Flora is beginning with 25 complimentary 30- minute recovery sessions for first responders who have served during our local wildfire response.

• There is no expectation to make time for this right now. These sessions will be here when things begin to settle and our responders have an opportunity to focus on their own recovery

• To redeem a session, simply contact us at Flora when you are ready. We will take care of the rest. No gift card or advance registration is needed.

We are also continuing to look for ways we can be of service while this crisis is still unfolding.

It has been a heavy week in so many ways.

In the middle of all of it, we had this very sweet freckled boy come through our doors to join one of our clients in session yesterday and he absolutely stole our hearts and made our day!

There is a reason animals feel so deeply comforting. Our connection with them lowers stress, assists with nervous system regulation, eases feelings of anxiety and depression, and creates a genuine sense of safety and calm.

We would love to see the animals who bring that kind of comfort and joy into your life if you would like to share a photo with us! I believe we could all use a little extra love from them right now. 🐾🖤

ROSS FIRE | HOW TO HELP

Update 8/26: 80,000 acres and growing.

The Ross Fire has now grown to approximately 50,000 acres and remains only 5% contained, spreading from Palo Pinto into Jack counties.

For those asking how we can help our neighbors, first responders, and communities affected by the Ross Fire, we are sharing verified resources and collection points as they become available.

Do not wait until your body forces you to stop.

We have had a significant influx of calls lately requesting same-day appointments, and we genuinely wish there were a way to accommodate every one of you when you need us. Especially when you are hurting, exhausted, stressed, or simply know you have pushed yourself too far.

The reality is, there are only so many of us and only so many appointments we can fit into a day. Our schedules are often already full by the time those same-day requests come in, with evenings and weekends filling especially quickly.

We have opened additional availability in the coming weeks to help accommodate everyone, but if you have been thinking about making an appointment, please book ahead whenever possible. Even a few days can make a significant difference in getting the day, time, and therapist that works best for you.

Beyond scheduling, regular maintenance is an important part of caring for your body before pain becomes the reason you finally have to. Tension, restriction, repetitive strain, and compensation build gradually over time, often well before they become painful or begin affecting movement and daily function. Addressing those patterns earlier gives us an opportunity to support the body more proactively, rather than waiting until discomfort has become difficult to ignore.

Your body is constantly adapting to your environment and everything you ask of it.

If there is one appliance you REALLY do not want to lose in this line of work, its the washer + dryer.

And Last week, our dryer completely went out.

When you are taking mountains of baskets filled with sheets, towels and blankets home every day, a broken dryer becomes an operational emergency pretty quickly. Ours was supposed to be repaired within a couple of days, so in the meantime, we loaded everything up and headed across town to West Side Washateria to keep things moving...

This turned out to be a HUGE blessing. ✨️

While we were there, we happened to meet the sweet owner, Meghan, who also owns + operates The Laundry Ladies of Parker County. And after watching just how much laundry we were working through, she very kindly looked at me and said, 'Why dont you just let us take care of that for you?'

And I am SO glad she did.

For more than six years, we have taken Flora’s laundry home every single day. Load it up, take it home, wash it, dry it, fold it, load it back up, take it inside, and repeat. Even on the days I was not needed to personally come into the studio the topic of laundry was constantly on my brain...

It has been a huge part of our routine for so long that I dont think we fully realized how much time and energy; both physically and mentally it was taking until someone took it off our hands.

And I just want to say Meghan and her team have been absolutely AMAZING. They have gone above and beyond to take care of us, and everything about working with them has been easy, kind and incredibly helpful. It has taken such a HUGE load off of us that we are officially spoiled now. They pick it up. Take care of it all. AND drop it back off.

Now for the first time, we are actually seeing the numbers in real time. We have learned Flora goes through nearly 1,000 pounds of laundry monthly.

Nearly HALF A TON. Every month. 🧺

I knew we did a lot of laundry, but I had absolutely no idea it was THAT much. Looking at that number after more than six years of hauling it back and forth ourselves really puts into perspective how much work has been wrapped up in this one part of running the studio. And now. We are spoiled.

Of course, outsourcing around three hundred pounds of laundry weekly is also a new expense for our small business, so we are carefully looking at how we can shift things behind the scenes to make this a permanent part of our operations.

But, this is exactly the kind of local-business support cycle we love: you support Flora, then Flora gets to support another wonderful local business— AND we get more of our time and energy back to pour into taking care of you.

With your continued support, the goal now is to make some changes in our operations so the Laundry Ladies can continue taking care of us.

This is just a little reminder that sometimes it takes having something taken off your plate to realize just how much you have been carrying.
