Nine years. Nine summits. And every single one for the same reason.

This weekend we climbed another ADK high peak with people we love, for people we love 🫶🏼 Some of us hike to honor someone we lost and some of us hike because we’re still here.

To everyone who showed up, donated, hiked, and hugged a stranger who suddenly wasn’t a stranger anymore: thank you. This community is the proof.

You remember how a place made you feel long after you forget what happened there.

That idea sat with me during an interview in Las Vegas about the Vanguard Pioneer Network—a collective of people who hold each other to the same standard: stay ahead of the technology curve, build systems that make the patient experience more convenient and more memorable, and support the next generation of orthodontists in practicing exactly the way they envision, particularly those committed to clear aligners.

That standard shapes how we run our own practice. We’re growing, and we’re grateful for it. But growth has never been the point. The goal is to look and feel small to every person we see and interact with—to make you feel intentionally invited in, the way you’d feel having coffee with an old friend. We laugh with you, we cry with you, and we celebrate with you 🫶🏼

We don’t do things differently for the sake of being different. We do them this way because to us, it has always been more than healthcare.

Your dental insurance probably doesn’t cover orthodontics. Here’s what nobody tells you. 🦷

Orthodontic benefits are NOT automatically included with dental insurance. You have to opt in—and pay a little more—to get them.

Three things to know before you start:

Your ortho benefit is a coupon, not a payment plan. It’ll take something off your treatment cost, but it won’t cover the whole thing.

In-network doesn’t always mean cheaper. With a lot of carriers, you’ll get the exact same benefit whether your provider is in-network or out. It really depends on the plan.

Never rely on the office alone to tell you what’s covered. Call your insurance company yourself and ask three questions: What are my orthodontic benefits? Is there a waiting period? What’s my lifetime maximum?

That last one matters most — orthodontic benefits are lifetime, not annual. Once you use it, it’s gone. ✨

Never stop moving the goal post. ⬇️

Every person I know who’s built something real has one thing in common: the moment they hit the target, they move it. Not out of dissatisfaction—out of curiosity for what’s on the other side.

They’ve learned to let the noise blur into white noise. The doubt, the opinions, the commentary from people who’ve never attempted the thing. And the loudest noise of all—the script. The big practice, the big house, the fancy car in the driveway. Society hands you a finish line and tells you happiness is waiting there. It isn’t. Plenty of people crossed it and found nothing.

So I moved my own goal post somewhere else. Be as successful as I’m capable of being. Build things that actually change the field I work in. Enjoy every minute of it. And never trade my happiness for someone else’s definition of a life well lived.

Dream big. Be your own harshest critic. And protect the moments of stillness—that’s usually where the good stuff lives.

There’s always something greater out there waiting on you to go find it.

Three things every orthodontist wishes you’d done before your first visit. 👇

Most people think they’re ready for braces or Invisalign — and most people are skipping the steps that make treatment safe and successful. Before you sit in our chair, make sure you’ve got these covered:

🦷 A complete dental exam — a general dentist who’s checked every tooth. No cavities hiding, nothing that needs to come out first.

🦷 A recent cleaning + X-rays — within the last year, with imaging that tells the whole story of your oral health.

🦷 Specialist clearance — if you’re seeing a periodontist or other specialist, get the go-ahead. Healthy bone is what lets teeth move safely.

Straight teeth are the easy part. A healthy foundation is what holds them there.

So ask yourself: am I ready? Is my child ready?
