Some say, “Never meet your heroes.” To that I reply, “Find better heroes.”

Amy and I just got back from our annual retreat at the Welcome Conference in NYC, and getting to meet Will Guidara was one of the highlights. Will has done more than anyone to show the world that hospitality isn’t about the service you give, it’s about how you make people feel. He brought together a room full of people for one day with one mission: spread kindness and make life a little better for every person we meet.

(Also, for the record: Will is a HUGE Bills fan. Hero status confirmed. 🦬💙❤️)

We wrapped up the trip with dinner at Daniel, which was nothing short of spectacular. Every detail was intentional, and every moment felt personal. That’s exactly the kind of experience we want for every family who walks through our doors.

This retreat is one of our favorite traditions because it pushes us to keep finding new, creative ways to bring happiness and joy to our current and future patients. We came home inspired and we can’t wait to put it into practice. ✨

Over $100,000. 💙🧡

When Team Casey first walked in the Out of the Darkness Walk, we never imagined we’d reach this number. Every dollar went to the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention (AFSP), and every step was taken in Casey’s honor.

Here’s what your generosity supports:

🔬 Research. As the largest private funder of su***de prevention research, AFSP added 36 new studies in 2025, bringing its current research portfolio to over $30 million! Most of that funding comes from the 400+ Out of the Darkness Walks, including ours.

🗣️ Education. AFSP’s Talk Saves Lives program teaches people how to recognize warning signs and help. Since it launched in 2015, it has reached more than 335,000 people nationwide, and it was recently added to the Su***de Prevention Resource Center’s Best Practices Registry.

🤍 Support for loss survivors. 98% of people who attend Survivor Day events say they feel supported, connected, and hopeful. AFSP also runs Healing Conversations, which pairs people who have lost someone to su***de with volunteers who have lived that loss themselves.

🏛️ Advocacy. AFSP’s 55,000 volunteer advocates push for continued federal funding of su***de research, the Comprehensive Su***de Prevention Program, and 988 and crisis services.

🚶 Community. More than 240,000 people walked last year. That number is made up of families like ours.

To everyone who has donated, walked, shared, or just shown up: thank you. You’ve supported more than us. You’ve stood beside every family who has lost someone to su***de and comes back each year to say their loved one’s name out loud. That’s what this community is, and we’re so grateful to be part of it.

Nine years. Nine summits. And every single one for the same reason.

This weekend we climbed another ADK high peak with people we love, for people we love 🫶🏼 Some of us hike to honor someone we lost and some of us hike because we’re still here.

To everyone who showed up, donated, hiked, and hugged a stranger who suddenly wasn’t a stranger anymore: thank you. This community is the proof.

You remember how a place made you feel long after you forget what happened there.

That idea sat with me during an interview in Las Vegas about the Vanguard Pioneer Network—a collective of people who hold each other to the same standard: stay ahead of the technology curve, build systems that make the patient experience more convenient and more memorable, and support the next generation of orthodontists in practicing exactly the way they envision, particularly those committed to clear aligners.

That standard shapes how we run our own practice. We’re growing, and we’re grateful for it. But growth has never been the point. The goal is to look and feel small to every person we see and interact with—to make you feel intentionally invited in, the way you’d feel having coffee with an old friend. We laugh with you, we cry with you, and we celebrate with you 🫶🏼

We don’t do things differently for the sake of being different. We do them this way because to us, it has always been more than healthcare.

And we hope other practices feel encouraged to do the same. 🙌🏼

Your dental insurance probably doesn’t cover orthodontics. Here’s what nobody tells you. 🦷

Orthodontic benefits are NOT automatically included with dental insurance. You have to opt in—and pay a little more—to get them.

Three things to know before you start:

Your ortho benefit is a coupon, not a payment plan. It’ll take something off your treatment cost, but it won’t cover the whole thing.

In-network doesn’t always mean cheaper. With a lot of carriers, you’ll get the exact same benefit whether your provider is in-network or out. It really depends on the plan.

Never rely on the office alone to tell you what’s covered. Call your insurance company yourself and ask three questions: What are my orthodontic benefits? Is there a waiting period? What’s my lifetime maximum?

That last one matters most — orthodontic benefits are lifetime, not annual. Once you use it, it’s gone. ✨

Never stop moving the goal post. ⬇️

Every person I know who’s built something real has one thing in common: the moment they hit the target, they move it. Not out of dissatisfaction—out of curiosity for what’s on the other side.

They’ve learned to let the noise blur into white noise. The doubt, the opinions, the commentary from people who’ve never attempted the thing. And the loudest noise of all—the script. The big practice, the big house, the fancy car in the driveway. Society hands you a finish line and tells you happiness is waiting there. It isn’t. Plenty of people crossed it and found nothing.

So I moved my own goal post somewhere else. Be as successful as I’m capable of being. Build things that actually change the field I work in. Enjoy every minute of it. And never trade my happiness for someone else’s definition of a life well lived.

Dream big. Be your own harshest critic. And protect the moments of stillness—that’s usually where the good stuff lives.

There’s always something greater out there waiting on you to go find it.
