Some people stumble into their calling. I sort of sprinted into mine—usually with a baby on one hip and a coffee in the other hand.
My name is Melissa Archuleta-Phillip , and I’m a student midwife learning the art, science, and deep intuition of supporting birth the way it was meant to be: personal, powerful, and centered around the mother. My journey into midwifery didn’t start in a classroom—it started in my own living room- literally.
I’m married, a mom of five amazing kids, and four of those babies made their grand entrance outside of a hospital. Those births changed everything for me. They showed me what birth could look like when women are trusted, heard, and supported by people who truly believe in them. I experienced firsthand the kind of care midwives provide—the kind where you’re not just another chart or appointment slot, but a whole person with a story, a family, and a voice.
That kind of care sticks with you.
Somewhere between diaper changes, school drop-offs, and raising a lively crew of five, a quiet thought kept growing louder: *What if I could be that support for someone else?* What if I could help women feel strong, safe, and respected as they bring their babies into the world?
So here I am—diving headfirst into midwifery training, learning everything from prenatal care to the rhythms of labor, from the physiology of birth to the emotional support that makes all the difference in the room. It’s equal parts textbooks, hands-on learning, and a deep reverence for the process that has brought every human into the world.
Midwifery, to me, is about more than catching babies. It’s about building relationships. It’s about listening. It’s about protecting the space where a mother discovers just how strong she really is.
As a student midwife, I’m honored to be stepping into the birth community—learning from experienced midwives, supporting growing families, and slowly finding my own rhythm in this incredible work. I bring with me not just training, but lived experience: the perspective of a mother who has labored, pushed, breathed, and welcomed life in the quiet, sacred spaces outside hospital walls.
And honestly? I couldn’t be more excited.
Because every birth is a story, every mother deserves to feel empowered, and I’m just getting started helping write those moments.
